Elden Ring: How to Get the Golden Vow Ash of War

elden ring

Elden Ring is the latest action-RPG from Bandai Namco and FromSoftware, and it mixes up the Souls formula by introducing a large open-world and bringing back quite a few mechanics we’ve seen in past games. Among those are the weapon arts, which appear in this game as collectible Ashes of War. Here’s how to get the Golden Vow Ash of War in Elden Ring.

Getting the Golden Vow Ash of War in Elden Ring

There are two ways to get Golden Vow; the first is by obtaining the Golden Halberd which comes with it, and the second is by killing a specific enemy in Limgrave to get the Ash of War itself, which can be affixed to any melee armament.

Golden Halberd

If you’re feeling confident at the start of the game, you can fight the Tree Sentinel boss, who’s located just outside the Church of Elleh.

While we don’t recommend fighting him at the very beginning, it is possible to take him down with careful positioning, or just by cheesing him with spells. After defeating him, he’ll drop the Golden Halberd which comes with the Golden Vow weapon art.

Do note that you cannot change the weapon art on the Golden Halberd, so you’re pretty much stuck with Golden Vow if you plan on using that weapon.

Defeating the Godrick Knight

If you want more flexibility in your build, we recommend going for the Ash of War itself, which is obtained by killing a Godrick Knight in Limgrave.

Head up to Stormhill, and just northeast of the Warmaster’s Shack, you’ll find a mounted Godrick Knight patrolling the area. Upon defeating him, you’ll get the Golden Vow Ash of War as a reward.

Head back to any Site of Grace to access the Ash of War menu, and you’ll be able to attach it to any regular melee armament of your choice.

What Golden Vow Does

Golden Vow is a pretty handy weapon art in Elden Ring, as it gives you a nice buff that can really help you out in boss battles and other tough encounters.

By pressing the L2 button, it’ll give you and your nearby allies increased defense and attack power for a short period of time. This makes it a useful skill to have, especially if you’re planning on playing through the game in co-op.

That’s all you need to know about how to get the Golden Vow Ash of War in Elden Ring. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
