How to Save Your Game in Doom Eternal

As it stands, you don’t manually save your game in Doom Eternal.

Instead, the game auto-saves at key points in the game. These can range from entering new areas and obtaining a new weapon, to defeating a boss and unlocking the next section of the game.

Regardless, you’ll always be informed that the game is saving by an icon in the top right portion of the screen, which reads “Checkpoint Reached.” We’ve included a screenshot with this icon present for your reference in case you have trouble spotting it while it’s visible in your own playthrough.

How Often Does the Game Auto-Save?

With this in mind though, it’s still important to remember that this saving system isn’t infallible.

While you’ll hit more than a few points in Doom Eternal where the game auto-saves, it doesn’t save your game all the time. As such, if you exit the game before clearing an area, or before reaching the next checkpoint after the last one you reached, there’s a chance you can lose some progress.

To that end, you should try to avoid turning off your game until after you’ve reached a checkpoint, and have ensured it has registered by waiting until the icon shown above disappears off the screen.

Hopefully this cleared up how to save in Doom Eternal. For more on the game, check out our guide wiki as well as its gore-filled launch trailer.
