How to Get The Chaperone in Destiny 2

After years of wreaking havoc in the Crucible, The Chaperone is back in Destiny 2. Here’s step by step how to get The Chaperone in Destiny 2, and claim that exotic shotgun for yourself.

The first thing you need to know about starting The Chaperone quest in Destiny 2 is that getting it is completely random. You might need to be level 50 to get it, but it will just randomly appear at some point in your pursuits inventory at some point through normal play.

You just have to be patient, wait until that happens and you see the Family History pursuit in your inventory. Once you finally have it, go to Amanda Holliday in the Hangar section of the tower to begin. Here are the basic steps for completing The Chaperone exotic quest in Destiny 2.

  • Step 1: Go to the Crucible and defeat 20 Guardians with a Shotgun.
  • Step 2: Get Void, Arc, and Solar kills in the Crucible.
  • Step 3: Get 15 Gambit Player kills

Let’s break down each step. So for step 1, depending on your skill in the Crucible just in general and with a shotgun, this could be the easiest, or the hardest step. It’s the only one that requires you to use a shotgun, so if you’re rough with it, this could take a bit.

Really there’s no trick to avoid this one if you’re bad with shotguns. Just take solace in that shotguns are pretty good right now in the Crucible. Just grind out 20 kills, however painful it might be, and move onto the next step for The Chaperone.

Step 2 is definitely easier as long as you can keep a halfway decent kill death ratio in Destiny 2’s Crucible. You can use whatever energy weapon you want for this step, which can continue to be shotguns if you want. Pick your favorite energy weapon of each element and get kills.

Kills count towards 5% progress, deaths erase 1%. As long as you’re not dying four or five times per kill, you should complete this step easily.

Finally, the last step in getting The Chaperone in Destiny 2 is Gambit player kills. This can be a bit tricky, but again, you don’t have to use shotguns for this, so it’s not too bad especially if you have Sleeper Simulant. The kills count whether you invade them, or they invade you.

Roaming supers like hammers are pretty good for getting invasion kills if you don’t feel comfortable getting the kills with a gun. Deaths won’t erase progress here, so just grind it out and you’ll eventually complete this final step.

Return to Amanda Holiday to complete the quest and get a powerful power level version of The Chaperone. A solid exotic shotgun that rewards players that can land precision shots.
