Whichever one is equipped will serve as your character’s skill. This can range from a Recon Drone that you can fly around to tag enemies to Deployable Cover you can hide behind.

How to Change Field Upgrades in CoD Modern Warfare

Everyone starts out CoD Modern Warfare with the same field upgrade: a Munitions Box.

Obviously, you can’t swap out items before unlocking more, so you’re going to need to level up to unlock other upgrades.

After you are able to unlock other upgrades, go to the weapons tab in multiplayer. Here, select field upgrades and press X to equip the one you want out of your available listing.

Once in game, press L1 and R1 at the same time to use the skill.

Keep in mind that different upgrades require varying inputs to be placed. For example, pressing square after L1 and R1 is required to use the Munition Box.

To summarize, change field upgrades in CoD Modern Warfare by doing the following:

  1. Go to the weapons tab in multiplayer.

  2. Select field upgrades and press x to equip the ones you have available.

Unlock more upgrades as you level up.

  3. Press L1 and R1 at the same time to use in match.

Some can be thrown in front, others are intractable – like pressing square to use munition box. Each have different recharge rates.

Now that you know how to use the field upgrades, you’re a step ahead of the competition.
