Upcoming Couch Co-Op PS4 Games in 2019

Penguin Wars — Jan. 29

In this remake of a cute, little, 30-year-old arcade game, the objective is to throw all of your balls to your opponents side of the field. It’s a bit like Pong, but hitting your opponents will leave them dazed for a few seconds. Penguin Wars will feature a 2v2 mode, so you can buddy up with a friend to kick some penguin butt.

Trials Rising — Feb. 12

Trials is all about struggling with the game’s ragdoll physics in order to make it to your destination. It’s maddening enough on your own, so imagine how frustratingly fun it’s going to get when two people control the same bike. You can do that in Trials Rising. Good luck.

The Lego Movie 2 Videogame — Feb. 22

The Lego games succeed the most in that they’re fun for everyone and the fact that you can play it in co-op makes it all the better. You don’t necessarily need to see the movie in order to enjoy this one; bashing bad guys and collecting studs is always a good time, no matter what.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove — March 1

After 16 years, ToeJam and Earl are finally back in the groove. This new throwback game will play similarly to the original ToeJam & Earl on Sega Genesis. It’s a co-op rogue-like game in which players search for presents and ascend a pre-determined amount of islands.

Wargroove — Q1

In this grid-based strategy game, players control a number of different units to wage war on their enemies. In the game’s Skirmish mode, you can team up with your friends and wage war together.

Team Sonic Racing — May 21

The “Team” in Team Sonic Racing isn’t just a fancy way to work in the ever-present theme of “friendship” in Sonic games. No, the racing is actually done in teams of three. Teams are awarded points based on how well they work together, so you must cooperate in order to win.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 — TBA 2019

Dragon Quest Builders 2 expands on its predecessor by adding in a co-op mode. This means that you can now fight monsters, collect resources, and build towns together. And together is always better.

Upcoming Couch Co-Op PS4 Games in 2019

Dreams — TBA 2019

Dreams is all about creating and playing through different levels or games. Unfortunately, the game won’t have online multiplayer at launch, but couch co-op will be there from day one. You’ll be able to make your own experiences together or jump into the creations of other players.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition — TBA 2019

It was hard to play through Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles in couch co-op back on the GameCube, due to the messy requirements of multiple Game Boy Advance consoles and GBA to GC link cables. But with the PS4 version, just hook up a couple of PS4 controllers, and away you go — dungeon crawling with your pals.

Tunche — TBA 2019

What better genre is there for couch co-op than the beat ’em up? You can jump into the hand-drawn Amazonian world of Tunche with up to three other friends and start racking up some combos and eliminating those big, bad bosses.
