It also rewards you for playing with others whether it’s locally or online, so time to make some friends as your journey into the deepest recesses of hell and the pinnacle of heaven.

Call of Duty – Love the series or hate it, Call of Duty has always provided plenty of multiplayer action, and thanks to modes like Zombies, it doesn’t have to be against other players, but rather as a team. If Zombies isn’t your thing, Black Ops III even lets you play the entire campaign with a friend.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited – The Elder Scrolls doesn’t seem like a series that would support an MMO quite well, especially since the games were all about discovery and sort of building your own experiences as well. Yet Bethesda and Zenimax have managed to capture the openness, sense of discovery, and challenging combat of the single player series while making it fun for thousands of players to jump in and enjoy at once.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – If you like shooting wacky enemies, tough robots, and huge beasts while also collecting what seems like billions of guns, Borderlands is your game. Plants vs. Zombies: Gaurdan Warfare 2 – There’s just something about killing hordes of zombies as a plant that is hilariously fun. You shouldn’t hog all the laughs for yourself though, so bring a friend as explore a new open world, unlock new plant soldiers, and rid the world of the living dead.

Sunset Overdrive – Sunset Overdrive is all about insane weapons, rapid traversal, and taking out powerful monsters that were created by an energy drink. It offers a co-op mode that lets you and some friends (or strangers) take on challenges and defend a base together while also adding in some competitive elements to keep things interesting.

Attack on Titan – One of the most popular anime out right now is also one of the most intensely fun experiences on Xbox One. Co-op feels just like being in the show as you hook onto powerful titans and try to cut of limbs and heads while also helping out your friends as they try to do the same. The traversal is top-notch, and the engaging combat never gets old.

Forza Horizon 3 – Forza Horizon 3’s Australian setting is absolutely beautiful and fun to drive through, but it can get lonely at times. Bring along a friend to complete challenges with or even compete against.

Best Xbox One Co-op Games

Resident Evil Revelations 2 – Resident Evil Revelations 2 can be quite terrifying, so bring along a partner to face off against the threats hiding around corners so you don’t have to scream alone.

GTA Online – You know what’s better than causing mayhem in a city as you take on civilians and the law and rob banks? Doing it with other players in a sort of MMO like way. That’s what GTA Online offers as Rockstar allows players to create their own characters and work to become the baddest criminal in all of Los Santos.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition – Metroidvania styled games are always a good time, but have you ever tried one that offered a lucha styled melee system? If not, you probably owe it to yourself to grab a friend and tag-team against the threat of the underworld.

Dead Rising 3 – Killing zombies in creative ways is always a good time, but it’s even better when you put two minds together to come up with insane vehicles and more twisted weapons.

Divinity: Original Sin – Divinity: Original Sin is a seriously deep RPG that can eat up hours of your time without you even realizing it. Even better is that you can play co-op but don’t necessarily have to do everything together. It allows players to explore the large world freely or team up to take on challenges.

Cuphead’s mix of boss battles and run and gun stages will test the skills (and patience) of even the best players. Fortunately, you can tackle the challenge in co-op, making for a challenging, albeit slightly easier experience.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – Get three friends together and each take control of a different part of a spaceship. Someone will have to actually move it about, while others can control different weapon terminals and a shield. Work together to save all of the space-bunnies and stop the evil forces of Anti-Love.

Octodad- If you thought controlling everyone’s favorite disguise-wearing octopus was hard in single-player, just wait until you try it out in co-op. Up to four players can each control one of Octodad’s limbs (or two players will control a set each). It’s weird, wonderful, and offers plenty of comic relief in its bizarre controls.

Fortnite Battle Royale- Fortnite Battle Royale essentially took the popular battle royale formula popularized by PUBG and added its own base building spin on proceedings. Group up with three others (or duo up with another player) and eliminate the other teams in this online multiplayer shooter.

Fortnite – If the battle royale gameplay isn’t your jam, the original Fortnite is currently in early access via the Xbox Preview program. This PvE mode tasks players with building large forts and protecting them against hordes of incoming zombie-like enemies.

Best Xbox One Co-Op Games

Friday 13th – Though Friday the 13th might not always be an Xbox One co-op experience (if you’re playing as Jason), when you’re a counselor working with the others to try and escape, there’s nothing quite like it. For a tense and spooky co-op experience, get some friends together and hop into Friday the 13th.

Ghost Recon Wildlands – With a huge sprawling world, plenty of missions and side quests to complete, and a bunch of explosives and vehicles at your disposal, Ghost Recon: Wildlands has plenty to offer players.

Left 4 Dead 2 – It may not have officially released on the Xbox One, but thanks to backwards compatibility, one of the best co-op shooters of our time is still available to play with friends. Left 4 Dead 2 pits up to four players in co-op against fairly lengthy storylines teeming with zombies to be shot down. Just make sure to stick together, you’ll be overwhelmed by zombies otherwise.

Rayman Legends -Rayman Legends offers up some classic platforming action on Xbox One all wrapped up with stunning visuals and a catchy soundtrack. The co-op mode in the game allows two players to beat enemies, scale obstacles, and collect Lums together. What more could you ask for?

PUBG – PUBG has finally arrived on Xbox One via the Xbox Preview program. Though the game is still in early access it offers up Duo and Squad co-op game modes for the battle royale action. Communicate, stick together, and be the last team standing.

Sea of Thieves – Does the idea of sailing the seas with your friends, fighting skeletons and other pirate crews, all the while gathering chests and have a merry old time sound like fun? Well, it sure should, because Sea of Thieves is great fun when you get a bunch of friends together. The gameplay loop may feel a little basic, but in co-op, Sea of Thieves is one of the best Xbox One experiences out there.

A Way Out – A Way Out is all about telling a serious and dramatic tale of two friends who meet in prison and opt to break out together to seek revenge. You’ll throw lamps at people, hunt fish in a rudimentary fashion, and even see how long you can stay balanced on the rear wheels of a wheelchair. It’s all sorts of fun, and has to be played in co-op. Fortunately, you won’t need two copies, as just one works fine.

Monster Hunter World – Monster Hunter: World marks the first time that we’ve seen the main series on consoles in some serious time. The latest entry brings far larger worlds to go hunting monsters, all so you can grind for that sweet, sweet armor. Get some friends together and hunt in co-op to make things go by way faster. Plus, it just kinda feels like a co-op game, y’know?

Metal Gear Survive – Though Metal Gear Survive doesn’t offer a traditional Metal Gear experience so to speak, it does offer a pretty fun zombie horde mode. You’re tasked with fighting off the constant waves of enemies heading to your position, and it’s down to you and some other players to craft weapons and gadgets to fend them off. In solo, Metal Gear Survive leaves a lot to be desired, but playing in co-op is a heck of a lot more enjoyable. Plus, thanks to the Fox Engine running the whole thing, it feels as silky smooth as The Phantom Pain did.

Far Cry 5 – The Far Cry series has seemingly been toying with the idea of co-op for a while, but it’s only come to fruition in the latest entry. Far Cry 5 opens up its entire campaign for co-op fun, though progression for the invited player is a little limited. If you’re looking for a sandbox world to fool around in and blow stuff up, look no further than Far Cry 5.
