Best PS4 Co-op Games

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – Borderlands is one seriously fun first-person shooter/RPG. Open areas, tons of enemies, even more guns, and non-stop action. What can make a few hours spent taking out psychos and other threats even better is bringing along a friend for the ride. You can play with up to three other players cooperatively either locally or online, so make sure to call some friends and bring your very best guns.

Destiny – Destiny 2 may be right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean there are no good times to had in Bungie’s first shared-world shooter. Sure, the game may have had a rough time out of the gate, but thanks to several expansions, including The Taken King and Rise of Iron, there are a ton of fun challenges to get caught up in, including four challenging raids that require some good old fashioned teamwork.

Broforce – There’s just something about pixelated shooters that are full of huge explosions that makes them difficult to pass up on. Throw in a healthy dose of humor that revolves around bringing in pop-culture icons from all the greatest action movies as well as solid co-op action and you have a must-play title on the PS4.

Dying Light – Zombie games may be super common, but not all let you explore a massive open world that leverages DIY weapons and tight parkour against hordes of dangerous, man-eating monstrosities. Dying Light provides a tense, action-packed experience that lets players team up with friends as they try to free a city from a deadly virus as well as find some survival for themselves.

Rocket League – Soccer? Check. Rocket-powered cars? Check. The ability to team up with a friend in order to defy physics and embarrass opponents? Massive check. Rocket League is the sports game everyone should play, and it gets even better when you and someone else jump in together for some co-op domination.

Best PS4 Co-op Games

Overwatch – Now overwatch is a multiplayer first-person shooter, so it may not be the first game that pops into your head when you think “co-op,” especially if you’re used to being teamed up with players who refuse to push the payload. But with just the right team, you can become a legendary team that rivals both Overwatch and Talon when it comes to memorable feats.

Diablo III – Diablo III does so much right. Solid combat with several varied classes that bring something unique to the tabl, the best loot system in games right now, and seemingly endless replayability. When you throw in that co-op play is both fun and rewarding, and you have the perfect game to play with friends locally, online, or a mix of both.

Resogun – Now we’ll be honest, this is not an easy game by any stretch of the word. But when you throw in another player the hectic level of cooperation while bullets come at you from every angle that provides an entirely new type of experience. Just try not to yell at one another too much. It’s hard enough when you’re friendly.

The Binding of Isaac – If you’ve never played The Binding of Isaac, you need to rectify that immediately. It’s a solid twin-stick shooter that takes full advantage of its rogue-like nature to provide hours of gameplay, and its twisted story will help keep you engaged. What many don’t know is that you can actually team up with another player so they can protect you as you delve deeper into your nightmares.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III – While Call of Duty as a franchise has had some rocky releases lately, the Black Ops series has been consistently solid. The latest entry in the series allows for players to play the entire campaign cooperatively while also offering a solid zombie experience (which is one of the most fun modes in the entire series).

Best PS4 Co-op Games

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Infinite Warfare may not be anyone’s favorite game in the series, but there’s no denying that the co-op zombie mode is one of the best versions, plus the Hoff himself is in there, and that’s reason enough to grab some friends and jump in.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 – Resident Evil can be a terrifying experience when you’re on your own, so bringing along a friend can help ease the tension a bit. Though in Revelations 2, Capcom figured out a way to make the presence of a friend feel much less comforting than it should .

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Honestly, you can put any of the licensed LEGO games in this slot. Just pick the media license you love the most and you can’t go wrong as you play as your favorite characters. This is a great one if you just want to have fun since you can’t really die.

LEGO City Undercover – After years of being a Wii U exclusive, this open world, GTA-like LEGO game is now available on the PS4 and there’s some co-op action to enjoy. It differs from other LEGO games by being completely open-world and 100% original. Enjoy taking out bad guys and finding secrets as you build new vehicles and tear up the town, family friendly style.

Overcooked- Cooking mama is fun and all, but what about dialing up the challenge to 11 and trying to make it all work with some friends in one of the most challenging cooking experiences ever concocted.

Best PS4 Co-op Games

GTA Online – Once heists were added in, as well as the other major updates, GTA has become the MMO-like experience we never knew we needed. It’s all the crazy fun of GTA, only with other murderers running the streets right alongside you (or against you). Form a gang with your friends, complete missions together, rob banks, and tons more.

Nioh – Nioh is what you get when you mix Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden, and it’s one hell of a good time. It also allows for co-op pretty much right from the beginning, letting players team up to take out some seriously powerful threats in medieval Japan. Time to practice your sword skills.

LittleBigPlanet 3 – LittleBigPlanet is all about building whatever you can imagine, but nobody said you have to do it alone. Creating cooperatively with other players, as well as tackling challenges (created by the devs or other players) is a truly fun experience that is often overlooked. Add it to your list if you’re looking for something a bit different from your usual fare.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris – Croft’s latest outings in her AAA experiences are single-player focused, but she has some isometric action games that make for some fun multiplayer experiences as you team up to solve puzzles and take out ancient threats, an element reminiscent of her more classic games.

Dark Souls III – FromSoftware’s challenging series may be primarily known for its rage-inducing challenge as it crushes players beneath its heel, but it also has some fun multiplayer. Sure, a lot of that has to do with invading and being invaded but you can also bring along a friend to make the nightmarish endeavor a bit more manageable.

Best PS4 Co-op Games

PvZ Garden Warfare 2 – When the first Garden Warfare was released, it seemed like a joke… until people actually played it. It was extremely fun and well thought out. The second entry was a bigger, better version of its predecessor complete with a large open world that was full of secrets. Not only will you team up to take out waves of zombies, but you’ll also do so to explore a new, dangerous world.

Towerfall Ascension – Towerfall is many things, but chief of those is challenging as all heck. One way to hopefully ease the experience is to bring along a friend, emphasis on hopefully, though. Friendly fire, hectic action, and sharp arrows can make a co-op partner your worst enemy if you don’t communicate perfectly. Talk about a tense fun time.

Minecraft – Seriously, everyone should have Minecraft by now (we’re surprised consoles just don’t come with it installed at this point). There are so many different cooperative opportunities ranging from exploration to building your very own world.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition – Guacamelee takes all of the Metroidvania goodness of exploring a world that opens up to players as they earn new, potent abilities and wraps that around a lucha libre inspired melee focus for one of the best indie titles on current gen. Throw in a partner for some serious tag-team action and take out the underworld one body slam at a time.

Watch Dogs 2 – The first entry in this series had a lot of missteps, but Watch Dogs 2 improves and expands upon its predecessor in every single way. One of those ways is allowing you to team up with a friend or stranger to tackle missions and wreak internet havoc upon a beautiful, online San Francisco.

Don’t Starve Together – Going hungry while fighting off man-eating pigs, angry buffalo, and Cyclops spiders is not a pleasant experience (though it is quite fun). But there’s nothing like having another person who’s slowly slipping into madness alongside you for the journey.

Bloodborne – Like Dark Souls that came before it, Bloodborne is brutally difficult and may make you wary of other players. But, if you bring your own pals you can enjoy a co-op hunt unlike any other.

Attack on Titan – Attack on Titan helps players feel like a badass killing machine just like you would in the Warriors series with a dash of Spider-Man’s traversal and a whole lot of nightmare fuel in the form of massive, man-eating titans. Bringing in a friend lets you fight to save humanity’s last city together as you chop off limbs and decapitate terrifying giants.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited – The Elder Scrolls as a multiplayer experience shouldn’t work, but Bethesda and Zenimax have maintained that feeling of discovery and deep progression of the single player experiences while introducing solid co-op play.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (and all expansions) – It’s easy to look at FFXIV as a fan of Final Fantasy and think it’s not for you. The MMO looks the part but it doesn’t exactly adhere to classic mechanical conventions of the series. However, skipping over this massive adventure is doing yourself a disservice as you’ll be missing out on one of the best MMOs currently out and a damn good game period on your PS4.

A Way Out – A Way Out is all about telling a serious and dramatic tale of two friends who meet in prison and opt to break out together to seek revenge. You’ll throw lamps at people, hunt fish in a rudimentary fashion, and even see how long you can stay balanced on the rear wheels of a wheelchair. It’s all sorts of fun, and has to be played in co-op. Fortunately, you won’t need two copies, as just one works fine.

Monster Hunter World – Monster Hunter: World marks the first time that we’ve seen the main series on consoles in some serious time. The latest entry brings far larger worlds to go hunting monsters, all so you can grind for that sweet, sweet armor. Get some friends together and hunt in co-op to make things go by way faster. Plus, it just kinda feels like a co-op game, y’know?

Far Cry 5 – The Far Cry series has seemingly been toying with the idea of co-op for a while, but it’s only come to fruition in the latest entry. Far Cry 5 opens up its entire campaign for co-op fun, though progression for the invited player is a little limited. If you’re looking for a sandbox world to fool around in and blow stuff up, look no further than Far Cry 5.

Fortnite: Save the World – If you’re not feeling the PvP action of Fortnite Battle Royale, Save the World might be more your cup of tea. Though it doesn’t quite have the same buzz about it, and it currently isn’t free-to-play, there’s a wealth of co-op content to be enjoyed in this beta. It is due to release in full for free later in 2018, however, so it might be worth holding off until its official release.

Secret of Mana – No, we’re not talking about digging out your old SNES and playing the classic on there. Secret of Mana actually received a fairly decent remake of sorts just a couple of months ago. While you’ll need to meet the additional members of your party in the story before you can have a friend join you in co-op, it’s always more enjoyable to play through an adventure together, rather than on your own.
