11 Things You Had No Idea You Could Do In Red Dead Redemption 2

11 Things You Had No Idea You Could do in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most ambitious open world games of all time. With such a massive game, there’s bound to be a wealth of things to do, and there are quite a few neat little details that you might not pick up on right away. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best things you had no idea you could do in Red Dead Redemption 2

Rob Trains Whenever You Want

Red Dead Redemption 2 lets you live the life of an outlaw, however, you see fit. Of course, a big part of that has to do with robbing hapless travelers, and that includes trains. You can actually rob a train whenever you happen upon one, you just need to pull your horse up next to it, jump on, and then anything and anyone is yours for the taking.

Hunt and Fish With Gang Members

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a ton of different side content to dig into, including hunting and fishing. What isn’t so obvious, however, is that sometimes the people in your camp will want to go with you. Occasionally, you’ll be able to ask certain members out to do the tasks, in which case you’ll get to hunt or fish while getting some nice character development at the same time.

Do Chores and Tasks Around Camp

The camp system is surprisingly robust in Red Dead Redemption 2, and a lot rides on how much your fellow gang members like you. Luckily, Arthur can pitch in around the camp to earn their respect. You can actually complete chores like chopping wood, carrying hay and sacks, and tapping water into the wash basin, all of which will help your fellow members like you more.

Helping Strangers Could Pay Off Later On

Random and dynamic events will pop up all across your time with Red Dead Redemption 2, and choosing to save a stranger in danger may just pay off in the long-run. For example, during our playtime, we saved a random stranger from an attack, who then turned up in a town later on in the game and offered to buy us any one thing from the local store.

Cowboy Spin Your Gun to Holster It

Any good Western has some flashy spins and tricks as cowboys holster their guns. If you want to add a little bit of flair to your battles, you can do that to. By double tapping L1(LB) Arthur will put a nifty little spin on his gun before he holsters it. Just like a classic Spaghetti Western, it adds some slick style.

Pet Dogs, and They’ll Remember You

Any open world game worth its salt lets you pet plenty of cute dogs, and Red Dead Redemption 2 certainly doesn’t disappoint in that regard. You can pet any pooch you run into, but even neater is that the dogs will seemingly remember you. If you return to a town and have previously pet the dog, it’ll immediately run right up to you, tail wagging, expecting another pet.

Return Stolen and Lost Horses

Horses are the lifeblood of the Old West, and there are plenty of steeds you can steal from their owners. Of course, they can also just get lost if a shootout happens or something scares them. If you feel like being a good person you can actually bring someone’s horse back to them, and they’ll sure be grateful you did.

Change the Look and Parts of Your Camp

Like we said earlier, your camp plays an integral part in your Red Dead Redemption 2 experience. With that, there are actually quite a few upgrades you can apply which will change both its look and functionality. Donating money, items, animal pelts, and meat will all help contribute to the effectiveness of the camp, and eventually, you can even add new areas on like a Chicken Coop.

Don’t Bathe, Just Change Clothes

Morgan can get pretty darn dirty venturing through the frontier, and how grimy he looks can change people’s perception and how they treat you. Of course, you can bathe to clean yourself up, but if you’re feeling particularly lazy you can just take the rich route and put new clothes on. You may not smell the best, but hey, at least you’ll look clean.

Drink Hair Tonic to Make Your Hair Grow

Morgan can sport some pretty neat facial hair in Red Dead Redemption 2, including impressive mutton chops. The catch, of course, is that it’ll take you a while to grow any kind of substantial facial hair. There’s a way around this, however, if you’re willing to take some sketchy hair tonic. This’ll speed up your hair growth quite a bit, letting you get that glorious beard even faster.

While you’re at it, make sure to take a look at our review of Red Dead Redemption 2, and find out why we thought it was a defining experience in the open world genre.
