Every Game That Got Delayed to 2019 and Gave Us Trust Issues

Kingdom Hearts III, delayed

Every Game That Got Delayed to 2019

1. Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes (Switch) – Jan. 18

Fans finally get to jump into the shoes of the badass Travis Touchdown once again, as he will apparently be striking again, as the name implies, in 2019. His next strike will be arriving a little later than Nintendo had initially stated, but better late than never.

2. Ace Combat 7 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Jan. 18

Originally planned for a 2017 release, Ace Combat 7 has suffered its fair share of delays. Finally, the combat flight simulator will be releasing in 2019, which is coincidentally appropriate considering the game is set in 2019. The PC release will follow shortly after the consoles’ on Feb 1.

3. Kingdom Hearts III (PS4, Xbox One) – Jan. 29

To say that fans have been waiting a long time for Kingdom Hearts III would be a colossal understatement, considering that the game was unveiled way back in 2013 (has it really been that long?). The game was originally slated for a 2018 release, but it managed to slip ever so slightly into 2019. It’s hard to believe that sora’s story will finally be over after all this time.

4. Metro Exodus (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Feb. 15

Fans of the Metro series have had to endure a long wait since the previous Metro release, 2013’s Metro: Last Light. Unfortunately, we’ll have to hold on a little longer for Metro Exodus’ release on Feb 15, after it was delayed out of 2018.

5. Crackdown 3 (Xbox One, PC) – Feb. 15

Crackdown 3’s constant delays are a bit of a joke at this point. However, the delays are not without reason. Microsoft Studios’ assures that the game has suffered delays as a result of the constant push to implement new technologies.  In any case, if Crackdown 3 manages to hit its projected date, it will be releasing on Feb 15.

6. ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) – March 1

Back in 2015, HumaNature Studios decided to run a Kickstarter campaign to revive the forgotten Sega franchise ToeJam & Earl. After a successful campaign, further funding from Adult Swim Games, and lots of development time, ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove will finally be making its way to consoles and PC on March 1.

7. Left Alive (PS4, PC) – March 5

Left Alive is Square Enix’s new take on the Front Mission series, produced by industry-veteran Shinji Hashimoto (Kingdom Hearts, many Final Fantasy titles), with artwork from Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinkawa.

6. Wargroove (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) – Q1 2019

Tired of waiting for Nintendo to make a new Advance Wars game? Then check out Wargroove by Chucklefish. It’s a turn-based strategy game heavily inspired by Advance Wars, and it’s planned to release in the first quarter of 2019.

8. Team Sonic Racing (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) – May 21

Another Sonic racing game developed by Sumo Digital is definitely something to be excited for. Unfortunately, we’ll have to hold on a bit longer for this one, as it was pushed from a late 2018 release all the way back to May of 2019. Sega states that the delay was done in order to “deliver the highest quality experience to fans.”

9. Inazuma Eleven Ares (PS4, Switch, iOS, Android) – May

Inazuma Eleven Ares is a video game tie-in to the Japanese anime Inazuma Eleven: Ares no Tenbin, which aired in 2018. The game was supposed to release alongside the anime, but that, unfortunately, wasn’t quite the case, as it will now be releasing close to a year after the anime aired.

10. Shenmue III (PS4, PC) – Aug 27

Crowdfunded games rarely ever hit their projected release dates, and that’s exactly the case with Shenmue III. Initially slated for a 2017 release, Shenmue III’s current release date is Aug 27. At least that gives you plenty of time to get through the Shenmue I & II remasters.

11. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries (PC) – Sept. 10

BattleTech is a wargaming franchise that has seen several video games, the latest of which is MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. MechWarrior 5 will mark the first numbered MechWarrior game in over 17 years since 2002’s MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries.

12. The Elder Scrolls Blades (iOS, Android) – TBA 2019

The Elder Scrolls Blades is certainly an ambitious title, to say the least. Not only is this Elder Scrolls spin-off coming to mobile devices, but it will also eventually come to consoles, PC, and VR devices, too. Furthermore, it will supposedly work cross-play across multiple devices.

13. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) – TBA 2019

Like Shenmue III, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was supposed to release way back in 2017. It was pushed back to 2018 and then once again pushed back further into 2019. It doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but let’s cross our fingers that it doesn’t slip into 2020.

14. Indivisible (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) – TBA 2019

Indivisible, an action RPG by Skullgirls-developer Lab Zero Games, has been in the collective consciousness for a few years now, and if all goes well, we should finally be able to get our hands on this anticipated indie game at some point this year.

15. Psychonauts 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – TBA 2019

Double Fine has been fairly quiet about progress on Psychonauts 2. Fortunately, however, we did get one major update on the game at the tail end of 2018 in the form of a new trailer and a projected release window of 2019.

16. Code Vein (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – TBA 2019

Code Vein is perhaps the game that has suffered the biggest delay in 2018, changing from a planned release of Sept. 28, 2018 to a much more ambiguous “2019.” It’s a shame that Bandai Namco couldn’t give a more specific date, but the company has at least explained the reason for the delay: “[to] ensure that the final product delivers on the expectations set amongst media and fans.”

17. Skull & Bones – TBA 2019-2020

Skull & Bones never had a concrete release date, but the delay makes it clear that this naval action game wasn’t close to hitting its originally projected window of late 2018. The new, larger window of release is sometime in either 2019 or 2020.
