2016 has seen a ton of games release and while we’ve had a few misses, a lot of them have been smash hits. With that in mind, it may be difficult for you to work out what games to pick up during this gift giving season for the gamer in your life. Without further ado, let’s check out some of the best games that 2016 brought to the table.

Uncharted 4

Rounding off our adventures with Nathan Drake, Uncharted 4 delivered an emphatic story and blockbuster set pieces. Mix in some of the best visuals we’ve seen from a game this generation and Uncharted 4 is a must for any PS4 owner.

Gears of War 4

Gears of War 4 marks the start of a new saga in the franchise. Players assume the role of JD Fenix as he and the rest of his team uncover a new threat to mankind many years after his father defeated the Locust threat. Expect just as much gritty, gory action as ever in Gears 4.

Forza Horizon 3

Opening the entirety of Australia up to players, Forza Horizon 3 puts you in control of the biggest racing festival in the world. You’ll decide what events you set up, the cars you drive, and where to expand your festival. This is the prettiest and biggest racing game out this generation.

Dark Souls 3

As the final game in the series, Dark Souls III delivers the same challenging experience as the previous entries in the series. Gameplay mechanics are better than ever, and there’s enough lore to keep even the most diehard fans happy. Praise the Sun.

Ratchet and Clank

If you’re looking for something a little more child-friendly than the likes of Uncharted and Gears of War, Ratchet and Clank’s vibrantly colored worlds, wacky weaponry, and great gameplay for all ages a perfect buy.

Civilization VI

Take your favorite civilization through the ages and conquer any who stand in your way. With more depth than ever before in a Civilization title, Civ VI is the must-have game for strategy fans this year.

Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 is the perfect WWI game. With its campaign that tells a handful of short but sweet stories, and its multiplayer bigger and bolder than ever, Battlefield 1 is the first person shooter that players have been crying out for quite some time.

Pokemon Sun and Moon

Pokemon Sun and Moon take players to the tropical region of Alola. Not only will players explore a new world, but there are a ton of new changes to the traditional Pokemon mechanic that make this duo the best set of Pokemon games in over a decade. If you’re shopping for a Pokemon fan, you can’t do much better than buying them this.

Overwatch

Overwatch has taken the world by storm with its compelling team-based gameplay, and well-balanced heroes. What’s more, Blizzard is continuing to support the game by releasing free content such as more heroes, maps, and game modes. It’s quite literally the game that keeps on giving.

Watch Dogs 2

Watch Dogs 2 is a huge 180 from the original game. Its world feels alive and bustling with things to see and do, its protagonist is entertaining and interesting, and gameplay has seen a huge tweak as you hack your way to victory over the ctOS 2.0 system controlling San Francisco.

DOOM

If you’re looking for a game that’s all about fun, over-the-top gore, and fast-paced action, then DOOM is most definitely the game you should be picking up. With tight controls, great visuals, and some of the most satisfying gameplay this year, DOOM is a standout FPS.

XCOM 2

If you like your strategy games with a little more action than Civilization VI, then XCOM 2 is a solid choice. Seeing you bringing the fight to the aliens that have invaded Earth, players must tactically move their characters around a board. It’s a tough challenge, but there’s no better feeling when you crush a level.

Dishonored 2

With its steampunk art style and stealth-based gameplay, Dishonored 2 sees players assume the role of either Emily Kaldwin or Corvo Attano as they battle against the forces of evil to restore Emily to her rightful place on the throne. This is the bigger, badder version of the first game in every conceivable way.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 answers the prayers of fans of the first game. It brings an enjoyable campaign and more Titans, maps, and game modes for the multiplayer too. If you’re looking for a futuristic fast-paced FPS title with giant robots, look no further than Titanfall 2.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Setting off into space wasn’t a popular choice with fans, but Infinite Warfare is one of the best games this year thanks to its sheer diversity of content. Whether you want a blockbuster campaign, solid multiplayer, or a wacky take on the popular zombies mode, Infinite Warfare has it all.
