Upcoming Indies Coming to Switch eShop

1. Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes

It’s been years since we’ve seen a new game in the bizarre hack and slash series, No More Heroes, but Travis Strikes Again is coming to the Switch exclusively and while it’s not a full-fledged sequel, it should still scratch that itch for die-hard fans. Travis Strikes Again will slash its way to the eShop on January 18.

2. Terraria

Let’s face it, Terraria is a very old game that originally released for PC back in 2011, but since then, the Minecraft-inspired 2D action-adventure title has seen release on almost every modern console and handheld, except for the Nintendo Switch. Get ready to craft, explore, and cut some trees once Terraria launches on the eShop sometime in 2019.

3. Sayonara Wild Hearts

Announced during The Game Awards 2018, Sayonara Wild Hearts looks to be some sort of crazy cel-shaded pop musical experience that involves motorcycles and lots of purple colors. It could be a rhythm game, it could be an action game – we really don’t know. Listen, there wasn’t much information given to us during the premiere but it looks rad as heck and is definitely something to look out for in 2019.

4. YIIK: A Postmodern RPG

Taking place in the ’90s, YIIK: A Postmodern RPG takes lots of inspiration from RPG’s like Earthbound but focuses more on the supernatural than anything else. A girl named Sammy seems to have mysteriously vanished and you’ll have to find out what happened to her all whilst exploring dungeons and fighting enemies using a unique combat system that mixes turn-based with an ATB system. You’ll be able to try this out soon, as it is set to launch on Jan 17.

5. Double Cross

Fans of Mega Man and other 2D platformers that take place in space and other alternate dimensions might want to look into Double Cross, as it looks like a modern take on the genre. Taking on the role of Zahra, you’ll be solving an interdimensional dilemma that will require you to advance through an adventure-style type of investigations as well as precise platforming.

Double Cross will be making its way to the eShop very soon, as it debuts on Jan 10.

6. Shovel Knight: King of Cards

King of Cards is the final campaign that will be added to the sidescrolling indie darling that is Shovel Knight. This DLC will bring four new worlds with over 30 courses to power through as the King of Cards himself. He’s got some new moves for players to try out and will most likely bring even more challenging action to the retro-styled platformer.

King of Cards is scheduled to release sometime in April of 2019.

7. Super Meat Boy Forever

Originally in development for the mobile audience, Super Meat Boy Forever is now shaping up to be a full-fledged sequel to the original Super Meat Boy. You can expect procedurally-generated levels, blood, sharp gears, and a ton of accidents, and by accidents, we mean the deadly kind. Check this one out once it launches sometime in April.

8. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

It’s been years since Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night first hit Kickstarter, but this spiritual successor to the Castlevania series is finally slated for a 2019 release on the Nintendo Switch and we can’t wait. We got a taste of Igarashi’s legacy with the Kickstarter stretch goal that was Curse of the Moon last year, but Ritual of the Night is the long-awaited main attraction and we’re here for it.

9. Wargroove

Since Nintendo is being stingy and not giving us a proper Advance Wars game for the modern age, Wargroove is the next best thing. Coming from the developers at Chucklefish, Wargroove is a tactical role-playing game that uses high-resolution pixel art and will feature online multiplayer, local multiplayer, and even an editor tool, allowing players to create their own maps. Wargroove is scheduled to launch in the Spring of 2019.

10. Shakedown Hawaii

Imagine Grand Theft Auto if Grand Theft Auto was a top-down open-world shooter taking place in Hawaii, that is exactly what Shakedown looks like and it’s rad as heck. You get to go around and destroy the competition against your totally “legit” corporation and shake people up for some protection money. Shakedown Hawaii is coming in Q1 of 2019 for the Switch.

11. Mineko’s Night Market

Ever wanted to open up your own shop in a night market surrounded by cute and cuddly kittens? Well, with Mineko’s Night Market, now you can. This narrative-driven sim game lets you craft and sell goods all while making friends with the locals and learning about Japanese tradition. We can’t wait until we get our hands on it later this year.

12. Samurai Gunn 2

The co-creator of Hyper Light Drifter, Beau Blyth, is back to bring yet another indie sprite-based side-scrolling action game to the Nintendo Switch. Samurai Gunn 2 features an expansive story mode that lets you play with a second player and also has a very bloody competitive mode that might end your friendships. There’s even a graphic novel within the game called Trigger Soul that lets you use the touchscreen on the Switch to flip through the pages. Look out for this one sometime in Q1 of 2019.

13. The World Next Door

When a human girl named Jun ends up in a parallel universe full of monsters and demons, she dons a mask to try to hide her identity. In this action-adventure game, you’ll be meeting foes and friends alike and making conversational choices that will drive the narrative into the direction that you choose. The World Next Door launches in early 2019.

14. Untitled Goose Game

In Untitled Goose Game (yes, that’s the title and they better not change it) you play as a goose whose only goal is to stealthily bother humans –doesn’t that sound fascinating. Playing as an adorable little goose and ruining everyone’s day is the type of game that we’ve been waiting for. This one releases sometime in 2019 for the Switch; oh and one more thing: if they do decide to change the title it better be called “Metal Goose Solid,” just saying.

15. Jenny LeClue

Jenny LeClue puts you in the shoes of a young detective who is on the pursuit of truth. She stops at nothing to find the next mystery, but once her mother gets accused of murder, Jenny finds herself in the middle of the biggest case that she’s ever seen. This 2D point-and-click puzzler looks like the perfect little indie game to cozy up with on a rainy Sunday afternoon and you can expect for it to release in Q1 of 2019.
