11 Upcoming Netflix Series You Need on Your Radar in 2019

Netflix has a lot of great content geared up for 2019, with brand new series that range from adaptations from other mediums to original works.

Below are 11 of the best upcoming Netflix series you need on your radar in 2019.

Green Eggs and Ham

Whether you were a grandparent, parent, or child, there is no doubt you’ve probably read, or been read, at least one Dr. Seuss book in your life. There is also a good chance that Green Eggs and Ham was one of them, as it is one of the most notable books created by the author.

While it might seem like an odd book to base a show around, there is a lot of promise. Green Eggs and Ham will tell the story of two friends that go on a cross-country trip, trying new things and testing their friendship along the way.

The Witcher

CD Projekt Red’s Witcher series has become one of the most beloved trilogies of all-times, especially since the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Now, Netflix hopes to capitalize on that popularity by bringing the Andrzej Sapkowski work to life.

To do so, the show will focus more on the tales that Sapkowski told of Geralt and crew in the novels, all taking place before the events of the games. There is plenty of star power already associated with Netflix’s The Witcher, as its set to star well-known actor Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt of Rivia.

Selena The Series

Even 20 years after her death, Selena Quintanilla is remembered as one of the biggest pop stars of all time. In this Netflix series about the singer, fans will get to see a reenactment of the singer’s “coming-of-age story,” detailing both her family and professional life.

Dragon’s Dogma

In the sea of RPGs that make up the video game landscape, Dragon’s Dogma is often overlooked, despite having a world rich with interesting stories and characters. The series gets another chance to shine on Netflix though, as the upcoming anime “follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart.”

The Central Park 5

Central Park 5 retells the real-life story of five Harlem teens that were incorrectly convicted by the media and the courts, twice, for the brutal rape of a jogger. The series will be a five-part drama depicting the events as they unfolded, starring Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers), Famke Janssen (X-Men), and Chris Chalk  (12 Years a Slave).

The Wave

No, this isn’t a TV series for the movie about a giant tsunami that is about to strike a fjord community. Instead, this new German show is set to be about a group of rebellious teens that want to create their own community, rising up against the establishment.

Things go wrong quick though, as their pursuit for an improved society results in events that span out of their control. What is even more shocking is that the show is inspired by true events.

Ultraman

One of the most famous pop culture phenomenons in Japan is getting its own anime. Ultraman is an upcoming anime adaptation that tells the story of a hero from the stars left this world in peace.

Years later, that heroes sun must now take up the mantle, becoming Ultraman. In this soft sequel, the titular hero must learn to become Ultraman in order to protect the Earth from a new alien threat.

What/If

An upcoming thriller, created by Mike Kelley (Revenge), What/If dives into the cause and effect scenario that would occur if “acceptable people start doing unacceptable things.” The series is set to star Renée Zellweger  as Anne, with season one surrounding “two struggling newlyweds who accept a powerful woman’s ethically perilous proposition to secure a badly needed financial windfall.”

Rilakkuma and Kaoru

If you’re looking for a show with family values, Rilakkuma and Kaoru is going to be perfect. This wholesome anime explores the odd relationship between a young woman and a bear with a zipper.

Rilakkuma and Kaoru looks to be ridiculously relatable despite the odd sounding premise, as Rilakkuma’s positive nature is enough to make any sourpuss smile.

Rhythm + Flow

American Idol, The Voice, and so many other music-oriented shows have shown just how much amazing talent the world has to offer when given a chance. Rhythm + Flow will further dive into the latent potential musicians we’ve yet to uncover, as judges Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and T.I. search for the next big hip-hop star in this music competition series

No Good Nick

Netflix has begun to capitalize on the family sitcom area as of late, fueled by the return of Fuller House a few years ago. No Good Nick looks to continue that trend of good-hearted fun, as the show will tell the tale of a young, street-smart grifter who shows up at a families door, claiming to be a distant relative.
