10 Best Short Video Games to Play

Donut County

Donut County is an indie game that was pretty much made by one man that has the player controlling a hole in the ground. It’s a unique idea and plays out as an action-puzzler with the goal to make your hole bigger and bigger, engulfing trees and chickens to farms and other large buildings. With a cast of quirky anthropomorphic animals, Donut County is one of the best experiences out there right now that will take no time at all – it only takes about two hours to complete.

Journey

Journey will always be known as one of the most emotional, relaxing, and soothing experiences in video games. You play as a nameless wanderer who dons a long robe and is on a quest to reach the top of a celestial tower. The game only takes two to three hours to complete, but it’s still one of the best games of all time.

Gris

This beautiful 2D platformer puts you in the shoes of a young woman who is trying to bring color back to a world that seems to have lost it. Throughout the puzzling story mode, you get access to new abilities that help you with traversal and exploration. Being only three hours long, Gris can be finished rather quickly and will leave you with the feels for sure.

Firewatch

Firewatch takes place in the tranquil Wyoming wilderness where you play as a volunteer fire lookout name Henry, who discovers that this national forest isn’t as quiet and serene as he had hoped for. Firewatch can be finished in under four hours, making this one very easy to beat in one sitting alone.

Yoshi’s Crafted World

Yoshi’s newest adventure places him in a world of arts and crafts. Every single stage in Yoshi’s Crafted World looks like it came straight out of a child’s cardboard diorama project for school and the results are adorable. Crafted World isn’t too challenging and only takes about 7-8 hours to complete.

Gaucamelee 1 and 2

Guacamelee received raving reception when the first one launched, as well as the second, and makes for some fantastic Metroidvania-like gameplay. Being a luchador, you have access to some really satisfying wrestling-style of moves, making combat super enjoyable, even more so with a friend by your side.

Minit

In Minit, each of your play sessions lasts exactly (you guessed it) one minute. By playing the game sixty seconds at a time, you have to figure out the ins and outs of the world around, learning more every time you die. Luckily, you can keep any collected items, giving the player a feeling of progression.

Resident Evil 2

This 2019 remake of the PlayStation classic proved to be one of the best reimaginings that we’ve seen in recent years. Resident Evil 2 reminded us that Capcom knows what they’re doing, at least for now, and brought a superb terrifying survival horror game to our consoles. Not to mention that both Leons and Claire’s campaigns can be finished in under ten hours, collectively.

The Invisible Hours

The Invisible Hours is a murder mystery that uses VR to immerse the player into a mansion, with a “whodunit” approach to the narrative. By finding clues, talking to the guests of the mansion, and gathering evidence, you have to find out who the criminal is. If you can stomach VR for about four hours, then you are good to go.

Night in the Woods

A cat named Mae decides to drop out of college and head back to her old town to shack up with her parents. After realizing that all of her friends have grown up. You walk around the town, interact with the neighbors, go on bike rides with your best friends, and you even get to have a knife fight or two. Night in the Woods only takes eight hours or so to complete, making this coming-of-age story a nice easy game to beat.
