Let’s dive into all the great upcoming JRPGs coming in 2019 that have confirmed release dates for Q1-Q4. After that, we’ll take a look further down the road at upcoming JRPGs that have unconfirmed 2019 release dates.
The last few years have seen a massive resurgence for the JRPG genre with titles like Final Fantasy XV, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI, Octopath Traveler, and much more. Looking forward into 2019, JRPGs seem to be right on track for another phenomenal year, one that kicks things off right away.
There are some huge titles that already have release dates, namely the highly-anticipated Kingdom Hearts III, which should finally bring some closure to Sora and company’s battle against Xehanort. However, the first part of the year also sees quite a few JRPGs from yesteryear return with new and updated versions, like Tales of Vesperia, The Caligula Effect, and Trails of Cold Steel.
The 3DS even gets a little burst of JRPG goodness in February, with Yo-Kai Watch 3 and Etrian Odyssey Nexus releasing in the same week. No matter what system you’re playing on, the first few months of 2019 have enough JRPGs packed in to keep you busy for a long while.

Now let’s look into upcoming JRPGs that don’t yet have confirmed release dates.
While Kingdom Hearts III is easily the centerpiece JRPG of 2019, the rest of the year is keeping things quite busy. The Nintendo Switch is the real star of the show here, as it’s receiving a ton of JRPGs throughout the year. This includes some heavy-hitting exclusives like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Shin Megami Tensei V, and a brand new Pokemon RPG.
Past that, however, the Switch is getting a whole host of classic third-party RPGs like Final Fantasy VII and Grandia, as well as brand new ones like Digimon Survive and Dragon Quest Builders 2. Mobile phones also see a strong outing with a brand new entry in the Tales series, Tales of Crestoria, as well as the western debut of SINoAlice, the mobile game by Yoko Taro of NieR fame.
Plenty of other big titles are planned for the year on other systems, of course, like the ambitious Souls-like Code Vein and the massive-looking Iceborn expansion for Monster Hunter World, one of 2018’s very best games.
