When you try to invite a friend to a game, you may encounter an error pop-up in Overwatch 2 that says “Player is in a different version”, and you won’t be able to actually get into a group with them. What this means is that while your friend might be online, they may not have updated their game to the latest version just yet.

  • On PC, in the Battle.net client, click on the gear icon next to the Play button and check for updates.
  • On Switch, press the + button, select Software Update, and update the game via the internet.
  • On PlayStation, press the Options button and check for updates.
  • On Xbox, go to the My Games and Apps menu, select Manage, and choose the Updates option.

Once your game is updated, you should be able to play with your friends who also have Overwatch 2 installed and updated as well.
