Here's a breakdown of Rhaenyra's marital status in House of the Dragon.

house of the dragon

The topic of Rhaenyra’s marriage comes up very frequently in the first three episode of HBO’s House of the Dragon, which is little surprise, considering that she’s the princess and is expected to marry out of duty to her house. She’s clearly very resistant to the idea, though, which brings up the question: does Rhaenyra get married in House of the Dragon?

Does Rhaenyra Get Married in House of the Dragon?

Yes, Rhaenyra does get married in House of the Dragon. In fact, she gets married twice over the course of her lifespan. Between her two husbands, she also indulges in the occasional love affair here and there with characters we’ve already seen in the show.

Below, we’ll go over her various love interests and prospects, so turn away now if you don’t want to be spoiled.

Who Does Rhaenyra Marry in House of the Dragon?

As mentioned previously, Rhaenyra will eventually marry twice, and her husbands are:

  • Laenor Velaryon
  • Daemon Targaryen

Laenor Velaryon is her first husband, though she only marries him when Viserys threatens to remove her claim as heir to the Iron Throne. It’s likely that she also accepted the marriage because she didn’t want to marry her own brother, Aegon II.

When Laenor passed away, she married her uncle Daemon in secret so that Viserys would not be able to voice any objections.

Aside from these two, Rhaenyra also had affairs with Criston Cole and Harwin Strong. Criston professed his love for her before she married Laenor and proposed that they run away together, but Rhaenyra refused as she believed that a Targaryen deserved more in life than to be a sellsword’s wife. While she was married to Laenor, it’s also implied that the three children from that marriage were actually fathered by Harwin, as the children all had brown hair while Rhaenyra and Harwin both had silver hair.

That’s all you need to know about whether Rhaenyra actually does get married in House of the Dragon. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more news and information on the show, including the inbred status of the Targaryens, and whether pugs exist in Westeros.
