How to Use Runic Attacks in God of War

God of War brings some big changes to the series, transporting Kratos from Ancient Greece to the cold wastes of Norse mythology. A wealth of new attacks and powers are Kratos’ to use as well, thanks to the introduction of the Leviathan Axe. With this new weapon comes new abilities for Kratos to use, one of which is Runic attacks.

To use Runic attacks in God of War, all you need to do during battle is hold down the L1 button then press R1 on PlayStation, or hold down Q and left click for a light attack, or R2/right click for a heavy attack. Runic Attacks function almost like magic in previous God of War games, and they can have a variety of effects. For example, the Wrath of the Frost Ancient Runic attack shoots a powerful ice beam out that can slow down enemies, but doesn’t cause a ton of damage.

Of course, make sure you actually equip a Runic Attack before you use it, which can be done simply by going to the weapons menu and selecting one for light and one for heavy. It’s a good idea to try out different Runic Attacks and see which one works best for you.
