Cooking in Tales of Arise

Cooking in Tales of Arise functions a bit differently from previous entries in the series. You can’t cook whenever you want while exploring or after battles. You can only cook whenever you rest at an inn or a campsite.

Before choosing the option to rest, the game will automatically ask if you want to cook. Choose Yes, then select the dish you want to make and which character to make it with. Each character has different favorite dishes and cooking perks.

For example, Shionne uses double the necessary ingredients, but the effects of the cooking are increased by 90%.

Characters’ cooking perks will only activate on their favorite dishes and Tales of Arise lets you know which characters like cooking which dishes. The duration of the cooking effect is indicated by a fork and knife meter on the right side of the screen, underneath the mini-map.

Getting New Recipes

New recipes can be earned through the completion of certain sub-quests, so be sure to look out for the envelope icons on the map to accept the quests. Once you’ve accepted a quest, you can check its rewards and instructions by pressing Right on the D-Pad when not in battle.

You can also get new recipes by simply progressing through the story. Each new party member that gets added to your group will bring some new recipes with them to cook.

That’s everything you need to know about how to cook and get new recipes in Tales of Arise. Check out our guide wiki for more tips, tricks, and useful info for the game.
