Learning New Skills and Abilities in Bravely Default 2

In Bravely Default 2, your skills and abilities are tied to your job levels. Basically, this means that if you want to learn all of the powerful spells that the Black Mage Asterisk has to offer, for instance, you’ll need to get enough Job Points (JP) to max it out and learn the skill that way.

There are active skills, as well as passive ones. Each time you level up a job, you’ll learn a new skill, with there being a total of 12 skills for each one. Active skills, such as Firaga, require you to have the job equipped in either your main or sub slot. During combat, you’ll be able to access your active skills from the battle menu.

However, passive skills do not require you to have the job equipped in any capacity. Once you’ve leveled a job up enough to learn a passive skill, you can equip it on a character and change jobs immediately.

For instance, while the Beast Whisperer skill is tied to the Beastmaster job, it’s a passive skill that you can learn before switching over to another job. Once you have it equipped, you’ll have a 30% chance of capturing enemies when you defeat them regardless of what class that character is using.

To equip a passive skill, bring up your menu with the X button and choose Abilities.

From here, pick the character you want and press A to confirm your selection. Each character only has five passive skill slots available, and you can mix and match them from any job you’ve already leveled up on that character. This is a big mechanic to keep in mind, as there are some passive skills that are incredibly helpful on every character, even if you don’t plan on using the associated job ever again.

That’s all you need to know about how to learn new skills and abilities in Bravely Default 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
