Bravely Default 2: How to Escape From Battles

Bravely Default 2 is the brand new exclusive JRPG from Square Enix that’s being released for the Nintendo Switch this week, and it’s easily one of the best JRPGs you’ll find on the console this year. The game features tons of combat encounters, but you don’t have to fight your way through all of them if you don’t want to. Here’s how to escape from battles in Bravely Default 2.

Escaping from Battles in Bravely Default 2

There may not be any random encounters in Bravely Default 2 as enemies are visible in the overworld. However, enemies that are stronger than you or are at your level will attempt to chase after you, and sometimes you might be forced to engage in an encounter with them.

That being said, you don’t always have to take part in the battle if you don’t want to. Assuming you got the allied advantage in the battle, or both your party and the enemy are on equal footing, you can always choose to escape. To do this, simply press and hold the ZL and ZR buttons on your Switch.

Your party members will then attempt to run away from the fight, and most of the time, you should be able to escape successfully.

However, if the enemy gets the advantage (indicated by the “The enemy is feeling brave” message at the start of the fight), it won’t be possible to escape.

During our playthrough, all the times we tried to escape when the enemy had the advantage resulted in failure, so it’s either impossible, or the chances of fleeing are extremely low.

In the scenario where the enemy gets the advantage, we’d definitely recommend trying to fight them off instead of attempting to flee. Failed escape attempts will only waste turns, allowing your foes to get more attacks in on you.

That’s all you need to know about how to escape from battles in Bravely Default 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
