Pokemon from the Unova region joined Pokemon GO back in 2019, but very few already have shiny variants. Usually, shiny starter Pokemon aren’t added to the game until they’re featured in Community Day. But now the grass-type starter from Unova is bucking that trend and we’re here to help you learn how to get shiny Snivy in Pokemon GO.
How to Get Shiny Snivy in Pokemon GO
This smug little grass snake’s shiny form is finally available in Pokemon GO. As of Jan. 5, 2021 at 10 AM local time, shiny Snivy was added to the game as a part of the Unova celebration event leading up to Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto.
From that time until Jan. 10, 2021 at 8 PM local time, Snivy will be appearing more often in the wild. You’ll still be able to find shiny Snivy after the Unova celebration event ends, but it just may not be as common.
Wild Shiny Snivy
And that brings us to the first way to find shiny Snivy in Pokemon GO. Just tap on every single one you see in the wild because any one of them might be shiny. Don’t worry about catching them since you just need to start the encounter to find out if they’re shiny.
Snivy can only appear in level one raids. Pretty much any Fire-, Ice-, or Flying-type Pokemon above CP 2000 should have no problem taking on a Snivy raid by itself. Once you finish the raid, then you’ll have a chance to encounter and catch a shiny Snivy.
Right now, Snivy is available in 2km eggs. Sometimes starters can be found in 5km eggs as well. There’s no certainty that you’ll hatch a Snivy, but at least you’ll have a chance of obtaining a shiny this way.
Field Research Tasks
During the Unova celebration event, there will be a Field Research task you can get by spinning a Gym or PokeStop. Just catch five Pokemon, and you’ll have a chance to encounter shiny Snivy. The non-shiny versions of the other Unova starters can also be encountered by completing this task.
That’s all there is to know about how to shiny Snivy in Pokemon GO. If you a high-level one with bad IVs, then don’t forget to hang on to them to trade them to a friend for an IV reroll.
