Destiny 2: Best Weapons for PvE, Raids (2020)

Destiny 2’s current meta goes through twists and turns as weapons rise in popularity, dominate the raid meta, and then get nerfed. In this guide we’re going to run through the best weapons for PvE and raids in Destiny 2 in 2020 as of Season of the Arrivals. We’ll start with Legendary weapons and then dive into the best exotic weapons for PvE and raid content as well.

Best Weapons for PvE & Raids in Destiny 2 (2020)

destiny 2, best weapons, pve, raid, legendary, exotic

First off, it’s worth just getting out of the way that in Destiny 2, most stuff can be cleared with almost any weapon if you’re good enough. We’re just passing along weapon loadout ideas that offer you the path of least resistance.

As it stands right now as of Season of the Arrivals, the meta heavily favors grenade launchers still, along with Swords making a surprise rise in popularity in recent months thanks to a few buffs. We’ll list a few of our favorites in the list below, but Anarchy and Mountaintop are still a fixture in many guardian loadouts as far as grenade launchers go.

Witherhorde, the new exotic grenade launcher from Season of Arrivals, at the time of this writing appears to be bugged. If after it’s fixed it still is doing good damage, we’ll add it to this list on our next update.

For swords, definitely pick up Dark Drinker and Bolt Caster 2.0 AKA Falling Guillotine and Temptation’s Hook, while they are available in Season of Arrivals. Falling Guillotine in particular is a DPS monster with the Whirlwind Blade perk.

Recluse, although hit with a few nerfs, is still among the best short-range weapons in the game. Auto rifles received a bit of a buff though and have become more competitive with SMGs not named Recluse and Huckleberry as far as primary ammo weapons are concerned.

Xenophage, after a rough start, has emerged as one of the best DPS weapons for raid bosses especially if you’re a Titan with Actium War Rig.

Snipers are a bit out of favor with the recent nerf, however the classics such as Izanagi’s Burden and Whisper of the Worm are still top tier DPS choices under the right circumstances where distance and safety are key. Tranquility with the right rolls will still serve you well if you want to avoid using your exotic slot.

Divinity is still a critical part of of many Grandmaster Nightfall and raid teams as the defense down and crit-spot weakness field is still incredibly powerful. It, along with Eriana’s Vow and Leviathan’s Breath are among the few weapons that have inherent champion busting abilities which make it incredibly useful in any activity that features champions.

Trinity Ghoul, since receiving its exotic catalyst, is now arguably the best add clearing weapon in Destiny 2, period. The exotic catalyst allows it to activate its lightning rod ability on any arc kill, and not just precision shots from the bow.

Finally, precision slug shotgun surprisingly has risen up the PvE ranks in Season of Arrivals as weapons like The Chaperone and Blasphemer are quite powerful in situations you’d need a shotgun for. Also still good are classics like Ikelos and Perfect Paradox.

Complete all your exotic quests and you should have solid arsenal of guns even without good RNG.
