Borderlands 3’s Mayhem mode revamp with 2.0 has been a wonderful new farming tool. While it can easily make the game a nightmarish hellscape, it rewards players who revisit certain bosses for regular farming. The new legendary weapons make a fun goal as Mayhem level is increased. Here’s how to get the Kaoson Legendary SMG including stats and perks.
How to Get the Kaoson Legendary SMG in Borderlands 3
The first thing to know is that as with every legendary added with Mayhem 2.0, you have to be on at least Mayhem 6 for any of them to drop. At this level, enemies have a 3,000% boost to health, shields, and armor.
Mayhem 6 isn’t a joke, and if your gear isn’t strong enough, your best bet is to either farm earlier Mayhem levels. It’s either that or find enemies you can kill easily enough and hope for good drops. The best suggestion for Mayhem 6 and further farming is to fight Killavolt until he drops The Monarch. It’s just that good.
As for the Kaoson, you will need to fight Captain Traunt on Athenas. As he is a rather early base game boss, it’s almost guaranteed you have already fought him, but this guide should be able to help refresh your memory.
The Monarch is truly your best bet for keeping the fight quick and mostly painless.
Stats and Perks
The Kaoson is another hybrid weapon. While it’s most certainly a Dahl SMG in every respect, it shares features befitting a Torgue weapon. Kaoson bullets leave behind sticky bombs that detonate after a second, dealing explosive damage and splash damage. The Kaoson also boasts some really strong accuracy, so it’s easy to keep the shots on target.
Normally, Torgue weapons’ explosive properties only occur at reload, but the Kaoson keeps up the explosive output. Considering it has a secondary fire of burst mode, it can really stack up the damage.
To summarize getting the Kaoson:
