How to Get Renown Fast & Easy in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord

Just as you’d expect in medieval society, forging a reputation comes down to proving yourself in battle, and that’s exactly how you earn renown in Mount & Blade 2. As you’ve likely noticed, every time you win a combat encounter the game will let you know how much renown you’ve earned.

But unless you’re taking on the right sort of opposition, the amount of renown can be pitiful. 0.2 renown earned isn’t going to make much of a dent in the 50 you need for Clan Tier 1, 100 for Clan Tier 2, and 150 for Clan Tier 3 — all of which are vital milestones in your quest to join a kingdom, and eventually create one of your own.

For the fastest results, your go-to strategy should be to take on groups of enemies slightly larger in number than your own. Whether you are just starting out or you’re fairly established in the game, this is a golden rule to follow. Taking out, say, 32 looters with 24 of your own troops will net you decent renown.

Working up to Clan Tier 1 can be done mostly facing Looters, Forest Bandits, and the like. Just auto-resolve every battle to make it speedy — making sure your own troops are suitably experienced, of course. Also, remember that Forest and Mountain bandits are tougher than Looters.

Later, once you have achieved Clan Tier 1, you can join an empire as a mercenary. From then on, your best bet is to tag onto the armies of the kingdom you are working for (assuming war has been declared on your empire). This is a great way to earn renown because you’ll engage in massive-scale battles without too much risk (obviously, pick and choose your fights).

Essentially, all you need to remember is to keep the odds in your favor. Save religiously, too, so that any progress you make isn’t lost with a silly decision.

Pro tip: If you are at war with Aserai, their infantry are some of the weakest in the game and you can be reasonably sure that even 1:2 odds are still in your favor.

Other Ways to Earn Renown

Battles from the world map aren’t the only way to earn renown. You can also accumulate it by taking part in arena tournaments, of which there is one in every major settlement. You can enter them at any stage in the game, and there are also items to be one in addition to the renown bonus.
