How to Move Your House and Change Location in Animal Crossing New Horizons

To cut to the chase, you can move your house and change locations in Animal Crossing New Horizons by talking to Tom Nook and purchasing the right to do so in the Resident Services building after it has been upgraded.

This occurs after you’ve reached a certain point in the game – specifically, after you’ve paid off your initial travel debt to Tom Nook of 5,000 Nook Miles and he’s upgraded the Resident Services area to a full building. This occurs after you’ve progressed far enough into the game, so just keep playing normally until this happens.

Once the building is upgraded, go inside and speak to Tom Nook at his desk. Select the dialogue options “About my home…” and then “I want to relocate.” You can then buy the right to move your house for 30,000 Bells.

Bells aren’t too difficult to obtain, as they’re rewarded for selling crafted items, redeeming Bell vouchers bought with Nook Miles and so forth. However, 30,000 is still a sizable amount and not exactly easy to accrue over and over again. As such, carefully consider whether you’ll enjoy your change of scenery before using them to relocate.

Time needed: 4 days

So, to recap how to move your house and change locations in Animal Crossing New Horizons:

  1. Progress to the point in the game where the Resident Services facility is upgraded to a full building

This occurs automatically a short time after you pay off your initial travel debt of 5,000 Nook Miles, which is part of progressing the main game.

  2. Go inside and speak to Tom Nook

He’ll be at a desk, and you can speak to him about the layout of your island.

  3. Select the dialogue options “About my home…” and then “I want to relocate.”

This will allow you to relocate your home to a different part of the island, though it will cost you 30,000 Bells.

Where You Should Move Your House to

As for where you should move your house to in Animal Crossing New Horizons, it depends on what’s most important to you while playing.

If you want to maximize efficiency with selling and buying items, you should consider moving your house next to the Resident Services area. Doing so will save you time spent hoofing it to and from the building, and give you more time to enjoy the rest of the game.

On the other hand, if you like to play online, you can set up your house next to the Airport. Again, this will save you time hoofing it to and from the building, and allow you to spend as much time as possible enjoying the rest of the game.

And then, if neither of these matter to you, you could always move your house to a location with a good view or scenery to ensure you’re in a good mood whenever you’re at your house. The choice is entirely up to you.
