With the Fortnite X Star Wars event underway right now, players will have to deal with the addition of lightsabers as mythic weapons. Able to deflect incoming enemy fire, and dealing 45 damage with one swing of these laser swords, lightsabers can seem incredibly OP. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can easily beat lightsabers in Fortnite, so let’s run you through these counters.
How to Counter Lightsabers in Fortnite
First things first, let’s get one thing out of the way. Just because someone’s running towards you with a lightsaber, doesn’t mean you’re immediately going to die.
All you need to do is make sure you’re carrying a pump shotgun with you whenever possible and to stay calm. As illustrated by players over on the FortniteBR subreddit, it’s the perfect counter to lightsabers.
This is because to use a lightsaber in Fortnite, you need to get up close and personal with your target to deal damage. Sure you can deflect incoming fire with it, but that’s not going to deal damage to your opponent, just protect you.
As such, as soon as someone with a lightsaber begins sprinting down towards you, whip out your pump shotgun and line it up with their head. The moment they swing their lightsaber to attack you, fire your shot.

If you get the timing right, you’ll eliminate them and won’t take any damage. Or not enough to eliminate you, at least.
Alternatively, we also found using a rocket launcher or snowball/ grenade launcher to be particularly effective. As these do splash damage, you want to aim them at the feet of the target that’s holding the lightsaber. They won’t be able to deflect it, and will still take damage.
These are trickier to get compared to a simple pump shotgun, however, so keep this in mind.
