In Death Stranding, the equipment that makes up Sam’s backpack is the difference between life and death. To properly use what he has at his disposal, you’ll need to know a few things first. Here is everything you need to know about how to equip backpack equipment in Death Stranding.

How to Equip Backpack Equipment in Death Stranding

To get the ball rolling on digging through Sam’s backpack, the first thing you’ll want to do is hold right on the d-pad.

This will immediately bring up the backpack equipment and the inventory that makes it up.

You’ll see some basic items, as well as other items like Power Skeletons whenever you unlock or pick them up.

To cycle through the backpack equipment and roll over to the grenades, all you’ll have to do is hit R3. This scrolls over to the next page, showing you the bundle of grenades you can use to fight against BTs.

Hermetic and smoke grenades will be two of the most useful grenades Sam has against BTs, with the former helping Sam fight them and the latter making it possible to escape.

To equip any of these, simply scroll over them and press X.

Now that you know a little bit more about the weight that Sam is carrying on his back, you’ll be able to traverse Death Strandings world with ease.
