How to Build Roads in Death Stranding

Roads and highways will make your delivery journeys in Death Stranding way easier, but building them is most certainly not a one-man job. You’ll need a ton of materials to build and maintain one, and this is much more easily done if you’re playing online.

To build a road, you’ll first need to reach episode 3 of the main story, where your PCC will get upgraded to level 2. After that, you’ll have the ability to lay out a road foundation using the PCC.

Simply equip the PCC by holding right on the d-pad and using the right stick to select it. Then, hold L2 to aim it, and use down on the d-pad to select the roads option. This will allow you to build an Auto-Paver, which will automatically build highways once it has enough supplies and materials.

Go up to the Auto-Paver, hold the Options button to enter the Structure menu, and select materials from your cargo to be donated to it. You’ll usually need metals, special alloys, and chiral crystals to build roads.

Once the Auto-Paver has enough materials, a highway will be automatically built, allowing you to travel across the world easily. It’s definitely recommended that you contribute materials to other Auto-Pavers you see around the world as well.

To recap, here’s how to build roads in Death Stranding:

  1. Reach episode 3, where Mama will upgrade your PCC to level 2.

  2. Use the PCC to build an Auto-Paver.

  3. Supply the Auto-Paver with enough materials for it to build roads.
