If you’ve played other kart racers, you should be familiar with many of the mechanics in Team Sonic Racing. Despite the huge emphasis on team racing, the game has all the typical bells and whistles you might find in something like Mario Kart. With that, here’s how to boost at the start of a race in Team Sonic Racing.

Essentially, there are three levels of boost you can gain during the countdown to the start of a race, corresponding to the three, two, one. Again, if you’ve played another kart racer you should be familiar with this.

What you need to do is press the trigger (R2 on PS4, RT on Xbox, R2 on Switch) in time with the countdown. This doesn’t mean pull the trigger once you see the numbers appear, it means you have to pull the trigger exactly when the numbers pop up.

The good news is that the timing is always the same, so once you get it down pat you won’t have any problem. It’s going to take a bit of practice, but keep trying to hit the trigger in time with the countdown and eventually you’ll get it.

If you manage to hit it in sequence with all three numbers you’ll get the maximum boost, represented by purple coming out of your car. Two charges will be blue, and one charge will be orange.

If you happen to mist pulling the trigger on the first or second number, you can still pull it on the other ones to at least get a little bit of a boost.

That’s everything you need to know about how to boost at the start of a race in Team Sonic Racing. Make sure to search Twinfinite for even more tips, tricks, and guides on everything related to Sonic the Hedgehog.
