Best Melee Weapons in Days Gone

If you’re facing off against smaller groups of Freakers, chances are that you’ll probably want to use melee weapons instead of wasting your precious ammo. The only issue is, melee weapons break easily, and they don’t do all that much damage in the first place.

Before you start looking into the crafting the best weapons in Days Gone, you’ll want to get the following skills first:

  • Field Repairs
  • Home Run
  • Hard Hitter

Field Repairs allows you to spend Scrap on repairing your weapons, while the other two skills drastically increase the amount of melee damage you deal. With those skills now in your arsenal, you’ll be able to get more mileage out of Days Gone’s best melee weapons.

Crafted Weapons

If you’re looking to craft the best melee weapons in the game, you can’t go wrong with either the Bat Axe or the Spiked Bat.

Spiked Bat: It’s not as powerful as the Bat Axe, but it can be crafted very easily as you just need a wooden bat, 10 Scrap, and a box of nails. With the aforementioned skills, you’ll be able to kill most Freakers with just a couple of hits.

Bat Axe: Easily the most powerful melee weapon in Days Gone, the crafting recipe for this one can only be obtained by completing the Ambush Hunter storyline, which requires you to clear out all Ambush Camps in the game. With the melee skills noted above, the Bat Axe will easily one-shot most enemies in Days Gone.

Non-Crafted Weapons

The non-crafted weapons in Days Gone are pretty awful, to be honest. But if you absolutely have to use them, always try to grab the Fire Axe or Lawnmower Machete if you can.

Both are pretty decent weapons that should take out enemies in four hits or so, but they also have terrible durability. It’s generally not a good idea to waste Scrap on these.

That’s all you need to know about the best melee weapons to use in Days Gone. Be sure to check our Days Gone guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
