Super Mario Maker 2: Is There Multiplayer? What You Need to Know

Is There Multiplayer in Super Mario Maker 2? Here’s What We Know So Far

During the Nintendo Direct presentation in February, the company revealed the upcoming Switch title, Super Mario Maker 2. Promising even more tools and items for players to use to create their own fiendish levels that they can share with others, this is far more than just a simple port of the original title. As such, some players may be wondering if there’s going to be any multiplayer functionality in Super Mario Maker 2.

At this moment in time, Nintendo has yet to officially confirm or deny that multiplayer will be in Super Mario Maker 2. That being said, there may be one or two hints at the feature being included if you take a look at the screenshots and cover art we’ve seen for the game so far.

The first can be seen in the screenshot down below. If you look just above the ‘Play’ button in the bottom-left corner, you’ll see a retro Mario icon running. Just to the left of this, however, are two people with wide eyes. We’ve no clue what this button is for certain, but if you ask us it looks like some sort of multiplayer button.

The other possible hint of multiplayer making its way into Super Mario Maker 2 would be the cover art itself, featuring no other than Mario’s brother Luigi by his side. While this could literally just be Nintendo giving the plumber brother a bit of the spotlight for once, or to really emphasize the fact this is a second game, we’d suggest there’s more to it than that.

Chances are Luigi would be the second playable character, perhaps with a higher jump or a slightly faster running speed to make him feel slightly different to Mario.

For now, we’re just speculating, so take all of this with a grain of salt. As soon as Nintendo makes any announcement regarding multiplayer for Super Mario Maker 2, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know.
