Upcoming RPGs Coming in 2019
TBA 2019
Next, let’s get into upcoming RPGs that are likely coming in 2019 that don’t yet have confirmed release dates. These are video games that have either generic 2019 release dates and we’re still waiting for more information. Or, these are games that are heavily believed to come out this year.
One of the most highly anticipated RPGs of 2019, Fire Emblem: Three Houses will mark the series’ debut on the Nintendo Switch. We haven’t seen all that much of Three Houses just yet, but honestly, even if it’s just more of Awakening or Birthright/Conquest, we’re gonna be happy.
If it throws in the stats-based combat system (like in Shadows of Valentia) and ditches the weapon triangle, even better. Three Houses is definitely one of the bigger RPGs to keep an eye out for if you’re a fan of tactical RPGs and shipping characters, I suppose.
Code Vein is another exciting upcoming RPG to keep an eye out for, especially for Souls fans. And while we haven’t heard all that much from Atlus regarding Shin Megami Tensei V, we’re fervently hoping for more news this year. Forget Persona and the rumored Switch ports, just give us SMT already.
For Switch owners, there’s a whole influx of Final Fantasy games to look forward to this year. Aside from the exclusion of FFVIII (why, Square Enix), Final Fantasies VII, IX, X, X-2 (and why this one?), XII, and Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition will be making their way to the Switch.
Speaking of Final Fantasy, the best FF game, AKA Final Fantasy XIV, will also be getting its next major expansion this summer.
Titled Shadowbringers, this expansion continues the massive overarching story of XIV and will see the Warrior of Light’s transformation into a Warrior of Darkness. Here’s hoping we get a good gunblade class. Bring on the edginess.
Beyond that, while it doesn’t have a set release date just yet, The Outer Worlds is also slated for a 2019 release. Developed by Obsidian, it looks like a pretty blend of Fallout and Borderlands, with tons of NPCs to meet, locales to explore, and decisions to make that will undoubtedly affect how your character is perceived by others.
