4 DLC Characters Super Smash Bros Ultimate Needs
Hunter (Monster Hunter)
Out of all the video game series out there right now, Monster Hunter seems the most likely that could get added into Super Smash Bros Ultimate, for a variety of reasons. Monster Hunter has long been a legacy series for Nintendo, seeing a ton of different entries on the 3DS, Wii, and more. From mainline games like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, to spinoffs like Monster Hunter Stories.
Couple that with the fact that in 2018, Monster Hunter: World became the hottest thing since sliced bread. It quickly became Capcom’s best-selling game of all time with over 10 million copies sold to date, a staggering number for any series.
The announcement of Joker showed that Nintendo might want to tap into the zeitgeist of the game industry, going for DLC candidates that represent gaming as a whole right now. Monster Hunter would do just that, and a Hunter character already seems like a shoe-in for Smash.
The different weapons of the series would make for an interesting moveset, and imagine a Final Smash where a Palico buddy joins in. To make things even better, Super Smash Bros Ultimate even already features Monster Hunter content.
The iconic monster Rathalos is a boss, and joining it are a few Monster Hunter music tracks. Because of that fact, let alone everything else, a Monster Hunter character seems like a prime candidate.

Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
Square Enix has been cooperating quite a bit with Nintendo as of late, putting both Octopath Traveler and The World Ends With You: Final Remix on the Switch. They already partnered with Nintendo to put Cloud in the last Smash game, and there’s another Square Enix character that would be an absolutely perfect fit for Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Kingdom Hearts will be turning 17 years old in 2019, and the release of Kingdom Hearts III is one of the most hotly anticipated gaming events of the year. Sora is just as much of a gaming icon as any Final Fantasy character, and many fans have been wanting the character in Smash for years. With the release of the biggest game in the series yet, now would be the perfect time to do that.
Kingdom Hearts does have a decent history on Nintendo platforms anyway, with Chain of Memories on GBA, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded on DS, 358/2 Days on DS, and Dream Drop Distance on 3DS. This means that nearly half of all Kingdom Hearts games have release on Nintendo platforms.
All the special moves in Kingdom Hearts could make an easy moveset for Sora too; Strike Raid on side special, Aerial Sweep on up special, Blitz on down special, etc.
Sora is just about the best choice Nintendo could make for a Smash DLC character, adding another major gaming icon into the mix, while celebrating a milestone for the Kingdom Hearts series.

Jibanyan (Yo-Kai Watch)
Third-party characters in Nintendo games have followed a pattern so far, coming from legacy developers that have a long history of putting games on Nintendo platforms. Capcom, Square Enix, Sega, and now Atlus. But there’s no third-party developer out there that has quite as good a relationship with Nintendo as Level-5.
Level-5 has consistently put hit after hit out in the form of Nintendo exclusives, including Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven, Dragon Quest IX, and Yo-Kai Watch, that last one arguably being the biggest series Level-5 has right now. Although Yo-Kai Watch may not have hit gargantuan status in the west, it certainly has in Japan.
During its height in 2014, Yo-Kai Watch hit incredibly popularity heights in Japan, even rivaling Pokemon for a time. Things have certainly died down a bit now, but with Yo-Kai Watch 4 in development, it’s due for a comeback. No other character from the series would be more fitting for Smash than its poster-cat, Jibanyan.
This adorable little creature has the cuteness and charm to rival Pikachu, and has easily become synonymous with the series. Jibanyan would fit right into a Smash moveset, with its Paws of Fury and fire-based attacks. The character already has a host of cute costumes to dress up in as well.
Even better, imagine having a Yo-Kai Watch stage and all that stupidly catchy music in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. It seems about time that Smash gets a Level-5 representative, and Yo-Kai Watch is the obvious choice.

Tracer (Overwatch)
This may seem a bit crazy, but Joker opened up a world of possibilities to new fighters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The popularity and pop culture impact that Persona 5 had clearly influenced his inclusion, and along those same lines Overwatch could be the same thing.
Overwatch, outside of Fortnite, has been the hottest gaming property of the last few years, gaining absolutely massive popularity the world over, and even an esports league of its own. Without a doubt, the most recognizable character of the game is its poster girl, Tracer, who honestly would feel right at home in Smash Bros Ultimate.
Tracer’s mix of pistol attacks and time travel abilities could make for a really interesting moveset, and a phenomenal Final Smash animation. Overwatch’s inclusion honestly doesn’t feel as unlikely as it used to either, thanks in no small part to the Diablo III: Eternal Collection making its way to Switch.
Blizzard is clearly showing they want to work with Nintendo, even adding in Nintendo-exclusive items to the game, like a Ganandorf skin. Blizzard Senior Producer Pete Stilwell recently mentioned to Gamespot that Overwatch on Switch isn’t impossible anymore, saying “Anything is within the realm of possibility.”
There are currently no plans to bring Overwatch to Switch, but imagine if they did. An E3 announcement with a Switch version of Overwatch along with Tracer in Smash would certainly leave a huge impression.
