It’s that time of the month, and today the latest statistics by the NPD have been revealed by Analyst Mat Piscatella, elaborating on the performance of PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the month of October across the United States.

First of all, the best selling console for the month is Sony’s PlayStation 4. This time around there is no ambiguity, as the console beat the competition both for units and dollar sales. Last October also marked a record, considering that it was the best October month in the platform’s history.

Moving on to games, below you can find the top-twenty ranking for the best selling games overall. As usual with these figures, do keep in mind that some titles don’t include digital sales. To be specific, those marked with “*” exclude all digital sales, while those marked with “^” exclude digital sales only on PC.

Surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 managed to top the chart despite the lack of PC digital sales in the mix, beating Red Dead Redemption 2, which had only nine days of sales within the month of October.

As you can see below, both games instantly jumped to the first and second place of the ranking for the best-selling games in 2018.

Speaking of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, it’s also the eighth biggest launch in the history of video games in the United States as tracked by the NPD since 1995.  It’s the second best-selling game of the past twelve months, kept at bay only by the total sales of its older brother, Call of Duty: WWII. That’s certainly not bad considering that it had less than three weeks on the shelves.

You can watch the full analysis by Piscatella in the video below. If you want to compare the results with the previous months, you can check out the NPD’s statistics for September, and for August.
