Spider-Man’s domination of 2018’s pop culture is set to continue with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which just got a fresh trailer. The previous trailer for this ambitiously animated title revealed three different Spider-Men: Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Gwen Stacey’s Ghost Spider. Now, this new trailer has added three more to the roster: Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham (not to be confused with Spider-Pig.)
How did all these different Spideys end up in one place? Well, according to the trailer, a space-time meddling “Super-Collider” is to blame, headed by Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). In typical comic fashion, the technology brings the multiverses together. With each Spidey trapped in one universe, the only method of returning back home is to destroy the “Super-Collider.”
Fisk looks to be the main villain, extending his limelight from the Spider-Man game. However, much of the film, according to the trailer, focuses around Miles Morales and his growth as a superhero. Dealing with a much older, mature Peter Parker will also be a first for the big screen, with the trailer painting him as a more measured, albeit still silly, web-slinger.
The major appeal here is definitely the animation style, which deserves major props. New York glows with the brightly colored art direction, with each Spidey having visually distinct designs and animations.
There is also a reference to those absolutely terrible Spider-Man popsicles we all had back in the day, too. Check out the trailer, embedded below. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse swings into the movies Dec. 14.
