Fortnite Double Barrel Shotgun: What You Need to Know

What You Need to Know About Fortnite’s Double Barrel Shotgun

Recommended Videos

The latest content update to hit Fortnite today has brought yet another new weapon to the Battle Royale PvP mode in the form of the Double Barrel Shotgun. Essentially, this weapon is in response to the negative reception to the “double pump” method of firing two pump shotguns in quick succession which was nixed from the game at the start of Season 5. As such, some people may be wondering exactly what Fortnite’s new Double Barrel Shotgun brings to the table to remedy this disappointment.

First off, let’s start by giving you a rundown of the Double Barrel Shotgun’s stats in Fortnite.

  • Rarity – Epic, Legendary
  • Base Damage – Up to 143 and 150 damage respectively.
  • Ammo Type – Shotgun Shells
  • Clip Size – 2

On the surface, then, the Double Barrel Shotgun offers an insane amount of close-range power in one tidy package. And yes, while two blasts from it can deal up to 286 – 300 damage respectively, it’s worth noting that you will need to be nice and close to your target.

According to the patch notes for content update 5.20, the Double Barrel Shotgun fires 10 pellets like other Shotguns, and has a larger spread, but damage falls off heavily at distance. As such, don’t go around using this like a Heavy Shotgun, as you’re definitely not going to get the desired results.

It’s also worth noting that the Double Barrel also has a lower critical damage multiplier at 1.25x, rather than 1.5x. Though, the explosive amount of damage this can deal out makes this less of a concern.

Our top tip for the Double Barrel Shotgun in Fortnite from our time with it so far is to take your time and make sure you’re landing solid hits on your target with it. What you don’t want to do is miss your two shots, and then have to wait for the two-second cooldown when swapping weapons. Put simply, if you don’t finish your target off with the two shots from the Double Barrel Shotgun, you’re going to find yourself in a pretty tricky spot. Better get improving your high-speed building!
