Next Mainline Pokemon Game Will Let You Carry Over Older Pokemon

Since the 3DS has been such an active handheld system for the last two generations of Pokemon, Game Freak managed to put out the Pokemon Bank application on the 3DS eShop. This app allows trainers to transfer their old monsters to other games in the series that came out on the 3DS like Pokemon Sun and Moon and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. By paying a small fee, you can keep all of your critters in this bank, only taking them out when necessary.

We all know that with this new 8th generation on the horizon, the big question that comes up is whether or not trainers will have some sort of way to bring their 3DS Pokemon into the untitled 2019 Switch game. Thanks to an interview with the series director, Junichi Masuda, via GameSpot, there will indeed be a way to let players carry over their old Pokemon to the next mainline game.

When asked about how all of that would work, Masuda explains the process behind the planned feature:

“We’re definitely always thinking of that kind of forward-moving functionality, especially since we’ve introduced Pokemon Bank. Now, up to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, you’re able to store your Pokemon, and we know they’re very important to everyone. I mean, obviously, people would be very sad if they couldn’t use their Pokemon in a future game. So, it does get complicated when you talk about the details and we’re still figuring it out, but we do have plans to find ways to let players use their Pokemon in the next game.”

Even though we really have no concrete info on the next mainline game, we’re still very ecstatic to hear that our beloved children from our 3DS’ will be safe in our Switch somehow.

In other news, critters from the Sinnoh region will soon be making their way to Pokemon GO, so we decided to make a list of the top 15 best Pokemon from the region.
