The Best New Games For The Week of July 23, 2018
Once again, the slate for new games this week is very light. There are at least a few re-releases coming out. There’s the port of No Man’s Sky to Xbox One, alongside the massive NEXT update which will shake things up immensely on all versions of the game. Multiplayer is being added, and base building, one of the most popular current features of the game, will be unfettered, and now players can build anywhere to their heart’s content. Also, if you’re a Mega Man fan, both Legacy Collections 1 and 2 will be releasing across all major platforms.
However, as far as actual new games are concerned, one game takes the cake this week.
Best New Game Week of July 23: The Banner Saga 3
The Banner Saga 3 finally puts an end to the trilogy of games that were kickstarted years ago, and launched back in 2014 with the original Banner Saga game. The games are all turn-based strategy RPGs set in a world that takes heavy inspiration from Viking and Norse mythology. One of the draws of the series is the difficult choices that you have to make both on and off the battlefield. The evil Dredge, the primary antagonist of the Banner Saga, seek constant war, and will look to make your life as miserable as possible.
You can jump right into The Banner Saga 3 this week if you want, or if you prefer, dive back into the original and see the story from the beginning and make your choices. As of May 17 of this year when a version for the Switch was ported over, the original game is now on all major current-gen platforms. The Banner Saga 3 will explore the theme of uncovering the truth, and exposing secrets.
