The Japanese game developer, GameTomo, has revealed that the new Superhot game will be set in Japan. Temporarily titled ‘Superhot JP’, it will be a standalone title in the Superhot world, but will be inspired by Japanese culture. GameTomo is developing the game in Tokyo under the guidance of the original Superhot team.
Superhot was released in early 2016 and was praised for its different take on the first-person shooter genre. It is a strategy focused game where time freezes if the character is not moving. The game is visually simple, the design is low-poly, and every object in the background is white, while the enemies are bright red.
The Japanese setting includes karaoke bars, bullet trains, samurai castles, and a chance to “dodge bullets while soaking in a hot spring.” Also, new weapons will be introduced, such as the bow and arrow.
Ultimately, the new game will be similar to the original, but players should expect a new storyline, UI, and menu system that reflect Japan-inspired design. Players will also notice subtle changes in the background, such as the addition of shoji screens.
Superhot JP is not a full sequel, but more of an alternate story campaign. The game will have about “15-18 regular levels and 3-4 endless levels”, and GameTomo plans to release the game for PS4 and PC.
There is no official release date yet, but the game will first release in Japan and then “possibly other countries worldwide”.
