Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, the follow up to the critically acclaimed original game, is finally out in the wild. You’ll be able to pick up what you left off from the first game. Your choices are carried over and the world is shaped by the calls that you made throughout the first game. Or, if you’re brand new to the series, the game will catch you up and allow you to make whatever choice you would have made before digging into the new story.

Pillars of Eternity 2 can be quite challenging and you’ll need to complete side quests and activities in order to keep up with the level requirements of the main quest. Quests, whether they involve combat or not, reward you with large amounts experience points which you’ll need to level up your character, which will, of course, grant you new skills, spells, and abilities. So, obviously, leveling up your characters is quite important

To level up your character in Pillars of Eternity 2, go somewhere that isn’t the world map. On the bottom left, you’ll see the characters that are currently in your party. If they earned enough experience points, on the top right part of their portrait you’ll see a white glowing plus sign, click that, and you’ll be brought to the level up screen. Once there, you’ll be able to advance one of your skills such as Athletics or Diplomacy, and obtain new abilities and spells. Once you have selected what you want to raise, you’ll reach a confirmation screen where you can either lock it in or go back and make changes.
