Okami HD on Nintendo Switch Receives August Release Date

Update: Capcom has revised their announcement, saying the game will be available for preorder through the Nintendo eShop closer to the game’s release.

Original Story: Nintendo Switch owners looking forward to the port of Okami HD don’t have much longer to wait with the game now slated to release this August.

In a post to Twitter made through the game’s official account, it was revealed the title’s official release date is currently set for Aug. 9. The version of the game includes all of the features of past ports to other consoles as well as touch screen functionality, joy con motion controls and HD support.

The port is the latest of many rereleases the game has seen over the years. Originally released on the PlayStation 2 on Apr. 20, 2006, Okami is set in a Japanese folklore version of Nippon beset by demons and an encroaching darkness. As the sun goddess Amaterasu, players must restore balance and light to the world by battling these demons and using the celestial brush to set people and objects back to their original form. Since its release, the game has been ported to several other systems including the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 and, with the recent release of Okami HD, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Okami HD for Nintendo Switch is currently available for preorder through the Nintendo eShop. For more on the game, check out our feature on how the Okami’s water color aesthetic was actually a far cry from the game’s initial design pitch.
