Golf Story released in September of last year for the Switch, and was a game that spliced the sport of golf with RPG elements. The game released exclusively on the Switch eShop, but it appears that not all hope is lost for a physical release.
Golf Story has recently been rated by the ESRB, receiving an “E for everyone” rating, and the content descriptor of “mild violence.”
On its own, this doesn’t mean much, but the fact that the game has been available on the Switch eShop for quite some time now begs the question of why the ESRB has rated the game now. The FAQ on the ESRB website explains that “many U.S. retailers, including most major chains, have policies to only stock or sell games that carry an ESRB rating, and console manufacturers require games that are published on their systems in the U.S. and Canada to be rated by ESRB.” Therefore, if Golf Story was to be sold physically in the U.S., it would almost certainly be rated by the ESRB. However, this isn’t a definite indicator that Golf Story will be receiving a physical release. We’ll have to wait on an official release before we can be completely sure of that.
