Is Bayonetta 3 Coming to PC?
The thrilling continuation to the Umbran Witch’s exploits – Bayonetta 3 – will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch at some point in either 2018 or 2019, following remasters of the first two titles earlier this year. The original game received an enhanced port on Microsoft Windows, however the sequel was a Wii U exclusive. With that being said, eager PC aficionados are left wondering where they stand: will Bayonetta be heading their way? Or will they be passed over once again?
Bayonetta 3 has been announced as exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, and the reason for this is fairly academic: it has been built from the ground up with Nintendo’s funding. Series creator Hideki Kamiya took to Twitter in February to explain the nature of the partnership between Platinum Games and Nintendo, detailing in a series of tweets about the series’ transition from their original publisher, Sega, to the current arrangement.
He mentions about how Nintendo stepped in during the development of Bayonetta 2 to assist when the production stalled, stating, “When we started making Bayonetta 2, we initially received funds from Sega to develop the game for multiple platforms, but the project was halted due to circumstances at Sega. Nintendo then stepped in to continue funding the game, allowing us to finish it.”
Without Nintendo, the future of the Bayonetta franchise would be uncertain, and as such, a PC port is unlikely to the point of impossible at this stage. From her appearance in Super Smash Bros. back in 2016, it is clear that the relationship between the two companies is strong – she’s practically a member of the Nintendo family now.
