A teaser trailer for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was released by Piranha Games on March 15. In the game, players get to pilot giant robots, and from the cockpit, blow up their enemies with rockets and lasers. The latest trailer aims to show off progress on some of the biomes in the game. It also shows off a bit of the combat, both from first person and third person perspectives.
There are several biomes shown in the trailer, including forests, deserts, canyons, and mountainous regions. It looks as though weather may play a role in some of these areas as well. While some parts of the trailer showed sunny skies, we also got to see areas with fog, rain, and even lightning in the sky.
Combat itself seems to affect the environment, as we can see some trees get knocked down after getting hit around 20 seconds into the trailer. There are a number of man-made structures scattered throughout the teaser which are shown to begin to crumble after being blasted as well.
Speaking of combat, the trailer seems to focus on battle as much as the biomes. Not so much the mechanics, but the aesthetic. All throughout the video, there are colorful lines of laser blasts, not to mention some fiery explosions from enemy robots and helicopters. Especially in the more overcast and gloomy environments, they make for quite the show. Who doesn’t like the idea of blowing things up in a giant robot?
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set for release in late 2018 for PC. More information about the game can be found on the official website.
