Level-5, the Japan-based developer and publisher is known for its huge franchises such as Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven, Dark Cloud, and Ni No Kuni. Since the company is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, October to be specific, the president and CEO of Level-5 is planning on making a huge title that is on or near the same scale as a MMORPG.
Akihiro Hino, Level-5 CEO, spoke on this new title during an interview with Bandai Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada via 4Gamer.Net. Hino also mentioned that the new game to celebrate the 20th anniversary won’t be based on fantasy but instead will be set in the “modern day.”
Level-5 has never released a full-blown MMORPG before, but the team and Hino have gotten pretty close back in 2004 with a game called True Fantasy Live Online, which was in development for two years for the original Xbox before being canned due to an unpleasant development cycle.
Seeing the beautiful modern worlds that games like Yo-kai Watch and Professor Layton have to offer, it would be interesting to see what a MMORPG would look like coming from the studio in this day and age. Here’s hoping that Level-5 can get over their past troubles and create an impressive new title that is on a whole other level when it comes to scale.
