A new team of developers made up of people behind the Hitman and Payday developers, The Bearded Ladies, alongside Funcom have revealed their first game together, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. The game is advertised as a “tactical adventure game”and combines the strategic elements of games like XCOM with exploration and stealth. Personally, I’m getting a South Park: The Fractured but Whole but with XCOM gameplay vibe from it.
Funcom is normally known for developing MMO games, so publishing something like Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, is out of their comfort zone for sure. The game takes place after some kind of war drives humans to what appears to be near extinction and whatever is left appears to be heavily mutated. The main characters look to be a Duck, a Boar, and some kind of mutated Human that are fighting against an oppressive group of robots. It will be based on the “Mutant IP” seen in tabletop and pen and paper games.
Details about the game are scarce, other than that it will be out this year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC at some point. If you want to get a sense of what the game looks like and might play, you can check out the screenshots below, as well as watch the impressive looking trailer.
