Kingdom Come: Deliverance released this week to mostly positive acclaim from both critics and fans alike. Like any open world RPG, there’s a TON to do and discover over the course of your adventure, and I’m sure plenty of Easter eggs to be found. However, most probably wouldn’t expect developer Warhorse Studios to include a blatant Legend of Zelda reference, but that’s exactly what they did.
Upon reaching the stables of Neuhof, a player can converse with a horse vendor NPC that has a very interesting familiar horse for sale but she warns you, you have to have a very particular set of skills to wrangle this particular steed.
Yep that’s Epona of The Legend of Zelda fame alright! The reference to flutes and pipes of course is a reference to Ocarina of Time, where Epona is summoned by calling to it using Link’s ocarina. Despite the vendor’s warning of having to play the flute or a pipe, you can pick up Epona as you would any horse, and take it along all of your adventures. However unlike The Legend of Zelda, Epona isn’t anything special in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Still, it’s neat that Warhorse Studios threw this in; an homage to one of the best open world RPGs from last year.
