3 Major Changes in Dynasty Warriors 9

With Dynasty Warriors 9’s open-world format, how many changes has developer Omega Force implemented with regards to story progression? Quite a lot actually, considering that the large open-world of China is freely explorable in story mode regardless of which officer you pick.

Dynasty Warriors 9 diverges from its linear roots through its freeform approach in letting players choose which battles to tackle. In past games in the series, players can opt to complete various optional tasks during a mission to weaken the forces of the main opposing officer. While optional objectives still exist during missions itself, the game also allows you to make battles easier before engaging in the fight. With the game’s freeform approach to missions, you can choose to expand your allied frontline by overtaking enemy bases. The more your allied frontlines, the easier the final fight will become as your allies will assist in the fight.

The open-world design also allows for some strategizing. You can now choose to infiltrate enemy bases at night, as your enemy’s perception is quite limited. From here, you can stealthily rappel upwards the large walls of enemy bases  catch them by surprise.

Dynasty Warriors 9’s story mode still resembles the linear story design of past games. Considering some key officers die in certain battles while others rise to fame in others, Omega Force has decided to chop off chapters with a limited amount of usable characters per faction. Basically, you can experience the story of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the 90-character roster that the Dynasty Warriors series has loosely told time and time again.

If you’re looking forward to use your favorite officers in certain battles, you won’t have to worry. Dynasty Warriors 9 retains the much beloved Free Mode, allowing you to pick any character that you want for any chapter you have already completed.
