VRChat: Do You Need a VR Headset to Play?

Do You Need a VR Headset to Play VRChat?

Recommended Videos

VRChat has become a bit of a phenomenon within the PC VR community. Allowing players to create and customize their own avatars, play all manner of games such as bowling or capture the flag with each other, and create and explore one another’s worlds, VRChat has become a bustling social platform for fellow VR players to engage with one another. With the game offering such a unique experience, many are wanting to check it out for themselves but are left asking the question – do you need a VR headset to play?

Despite the name suggesting that VRChat is an entirely virtual reality-based experience, it’s possible to join in the fun without an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or any other VR headset. It’s worth noting however that the game is intended to be a VR experience and so playing in the game’s desktop mode won’t allow for the same degree of interaction with the world. For example, you won’t be able to freely move your character’s arms without holding anything.

If you’re happy to play without a VR headset, simply load up the game and select the Desktop Mode option when prompted.

That’s all you need to know to play VRChat without a VR headset. For more on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
