January 2018 Xbox Games With Gold Predictions

Some free games for the new year.

Subscribers of Microsoft’s online service are rewarded with monthly free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. With the new year upon us, it’s time to look forward to 2018 and take a guess at what free games will be included in Games with Gold in January before they are officially announced later in the month.

For the beginning of December, Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide is free from Dec. 1-31, Child of Eden on Xbox 360 was free from Dec. 1-15, and the compete season of Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands was free from Dec. 1-15. For the second half of the month we have Back to the Future: The Game – 30th Anniversary Edition from Dec. 15 – Jan 15, and Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death from Dec. 16 – 31.

There’s usually a couple larger games headlining the list every month, and for January we believe Dishonored: Definitive Edition is a worthy candidate. The Definitive Edition includes the game and all its later released DLC, with improved graphics for next-gen consoles. It’s pretty surprising Dishonored hasn’t been released to Games with Gold thus far, given the success of its sequel released in November 2016.

Another larger game to consider is the full first season of Telltale’s Game of Thrones series. Both Sony and Microsoft are pretty accustomed to including Telltale seasons in their lineups, with both Tales from the Borderlands and Back to the Future: The Game making the list for November/December as seen above. Telltale’s take on Game of Thrones has yet to make it to Games with Gold yet so we should see it sometime soon.

Next up is out guess at what indie game might be included in the lineup for the new year.
